Thailand's Platinum Group Signs Double Deal with IHG for Holiday Inn Brand Family Properties in Koh Samui

Holiday Inn Resort and Holiday Inn Express to be part of new build mixed-use development on Bophut Beach

December 04, 2014 // Franchising.com // InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world's leading hotel companies, has signed an agreement with Thailand's leading property group, The Platinum Samui Co., Ltd., part of the Platinum Group, to develop the first Holiday Inn Resort and Holiday Inn Express hotel in the popular island destination of Koh Samui.

Situated a short 15-minute drive from the Samui International Airport, travellers can opt to stay at the full service family-friendly Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut, or enjoy the comfort and convenience of the select service Holiday Inn Express Samui Bophut.

Developed on a generous space spanning more than 40,000 square metres, the properties will be located in the heart of Koh Samui's northern coastline at the Fisherman's Village along the Bophut beach, and will be part of a mixed-use development also comprising The Wharf Samui Community Mall, a low-rise retail market cluster.

Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut will boast 150 resort-styled rooms which include specially designed KidSuites and Family Suites. Guests can expect the signature warm welcome, friendly service and modern facilities of the Holiday Inn brand at excellent value while their young ones get to enjoy amenities designed especially for them, such as the Kids Club, and make the most of the brand's exclusive "Kids Stay & Eat Free" programme.

Travellers looking for a more affordable alternative to a full service hotel with the assurance of a global hotel brand will find it next door at the 200-room Holiday Inn Express Samui Bophut. With direct access to the beachfront walking street, and vibrant food & beverage outlets and retails scene right at their front door, guests at the hotel will have everything they need for an enjoyable stay, including:

  • Free and fast Wi-Fi available in all guest rooms and throughout the hotel to stay connected with those who matter all day, every day.
  • Free Express Start™ Breakfast or a Grab & Go option for an energising start to the day.
  • comfortable and restful sleep with high quality bedding and a choice of firm or soft pillows.
  • Refreshing power showers with a three-function massage showerhead and fluffy towels to keep revitalized.
  • Self-service business centre and laundry room.
  • A 24-hour fitness room to enable guests to upkeep their fitness regime away from home.

Clarence Tan, Senior Vice President, Development, Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), IHG, said: "Thailand is a very popular travel destination and a market of strategic importance to us. It currently has our most number of hotels open in South East Asia and we are looking to almost double that in the next three to five years. It is also a time of growth for hospitality players in Thailand with international arrivals projected to reach over 26 million per year."

"We anticipate a strong percentage of them to be travelling to popular resort locations like Koh Samui – and we are especially excited to be partnering with The Platinum Samui Co., Ltd. to bring our Holiday Inn brand family to Koh Samui. These two new properties will put us in good stead to be able to cater to guests across all segments when Holiday Inn Express Samui Bophut opens in 2017 and Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut in 2018."

Mr. Somboon Wongrassamee, President, The Platinum Group Public Company Limited said: "Koh Samui is seeing a steady growth in tourist arrivals year on year and there is still room to grow in the branded hotels space here. Together with The Wharf Samui Community Mall, this development represents our foray into Koh Samui and we are pleased to be partnering with IHG to bring two globally recognised brands such as Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express into the market."

IHG currently has 16 properties in Thailand across four brands: InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels. With the signings of these two properties, the company has 12 hotels due to open in the next three to five years, including the first Hotel Indigo in the region which will open in Bangkok's Wireless Road by the end of this year.
