Woodcraft Announces Season 22 of "The American Woodshop" with Co-Hosts Scott and Suzy Phillips
Woodcraft is proud to continue as a sponsor of "The American Woodshop" in its 22nd season on PBS that begins Saturday, Dec. 20.
PARKERSBURG, W. VA. (PRWEB) December 19, 2014 - "The American Woodshop" co-hosts Scott and Suzy Phillips will launch the show's 22nd season – "Bringing It Home" – on Saturday, December 20. Check with your local PBS station for airtimes.
Woodcraft Supply, LLC, the Kreg Tool Company, Easy Wood Tools, the Gorilla Glue Company, and O'Keeffe's Working Hands provide funding for "The American Woodshop," which is produced by WBGU-TV in Bowling Green, Ohio, and carried on 350 plus PBS stations.
"Why is 'The American Woodshop' different? It is because we are doing projects for the homeowner that they can do," Scott said. "This is about building skills, showing people how to safely use tools, and showing the latest tool innovations that are out there. Viewers aren't going to get this information anywhere else, and it's from a married couple that has spark on camera as well." Suzy added, "You gotta have fun."
Woodcraft president Jody Garrett praised "The American Woodshop" as a valuable resource for woodworking instruction, part of Woodcraft's mission to serve its customers. "Congratulations to Scott and Suzy for another great lineup of woodworking projects that combines the unusual with the traditional and brings attention to the value of upcycling," Garrett said.
Public Television's only husband and wife team will bring viewers 13 brand-new episodes that Scott describes as "changing the way things can be done," as well as incorporating the different aspects of upcycling.
"How many times does a damaged piece of furniture just get thrown away? What a waste," Scott said. "It is time for all of us to add value to life by creating new things from found parts. In one episode, we use a beautiful reclaimed top from a table found by the road and ready for the trash to build a trestle table that features through pegged mortise-and-tenon joints."
Another episode shows a Tool Bench for Every Home that Scott said is about building a work table that can quickly and easily be stored when not in use. "It has two gate legs that get the job done, plus it looks like a graceful table that has many uses. So this breaks the traditional mold."
"The Broken Arch Wall Cabinet is inspired by Chippendale design but combines a natural edge capital trim and stained glass transom that sets it apart from all previous designs. In a word, Season 22 is about change," Scott said.
Other Season 22 Projects
Mega Turnings: Recycled wood is turned into dramatic candlesticks and turned-art candle pedestals. James C. Opicka joins Scott and Suzy to demonstrate a lathe, powered by a bicycle flywheel, that he built for use by African tribesmen.
Spirit Carvings: Scott repurposes reclaimed walnut wood to carve a Flying Horse Weather Vane and northern white cedar to carve a Wind Spirit. A scrollsaw is used to create the curves and 3-D effect of The Moose Walking in the Woods wall art. Designer/painter Jim Foster shows Suzy how to paint on carved wood for a real-life look.
Heirloom Frames: Suzy shows how to use scrolling to create a raised three-dimensional lettering effect to a frame, and she joins Scott to craft a southern yellow pine frame for the Moose picture they made in the "Spirit Carvings" episode. Jim Foster drops by to show Scott and Suzy how to carve a fanciful gnome door and gnome.
