Woodcraft To Continue Upcycling Campaign with Store Demos and Online

Woodcraft Supply, LLC, will continue its promotion of upcycling in 2015 through its retail stores and online resources.

Parkersburg, W. VA. (PRWEB) December 29, 2014 - Woodcraft has announced it will continue promotion of upcycling in 2015 with monthly demonstrations at retail stores and upcycling information online.

For the past year Woodcraft and its retail stores nationwide have promoted upcycling – the repurposing of an item into something more valuable – through free demonstrations that show how easy it is to transform rather than trash furniture, doors, windows and other items. "We are committed to continuing the program for 2015," Vince Grlovich, vice president for sales and marketing, said. "We took a break in December, but demos will resume on January 17 with a coat rack project."

"To support this upcycling effort, Woodcraft.com added an Upcycling Resource Center to our website (http://www.woodcraft.com/media/upcycling.aspx) to introduce viewers to upcycling and announce demo topics and dates," Grlovich said. "Viewers can also watch a segment of Lifetime's 'Designing Spaces' where Woodcraft product development manager Kent Harpool shows host Aliane Baquerot how to create a shelf from a wooden pallet."

Both Woodcraft's Pinterest page (http://www.pinterest.com/woodcraftsupply/upcycling-diy-more/ ) and Instagram gallery (http://instagram.com/woodcraftgallery) include upcycling ideas, and the blog, 'Woodworking Adventures' (blog.woodcraft.com/) has featured upcycling several times. One blog gives details of a demo hosted by Woodcraft and ReStore, the Parkersburg Habitat for Humanity Store.

Why this emphasis on upcycling? "One reason is to help reduce the amount of trash in landfills," Grlovich said. "According to the latest EPA statistics, Americans generated 251 million tons of trash in 2012, while recycling and composting only 87 million tons of that material."

"Another goal," Grlovich said, "is to help customers learn to identify potential upcycling 'candidates' and to learn new skills as they change the look or function of a piece by upcycling and thus improve not only its value, but also its lifetime. Woodcraft has the products and employee expertise to demonstrate how much fun upcycling can be – whether you tackle a small project or decide to turn a bookcase into a chair."
