January 9, 2015 - Colorado Springs, CO - Jersey Mike's Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened in Colorado Springs on December 17. Franchise owners Tim and Christy Holliday held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, December 17 to Sunday, December 21 to support the Wounded Warrior Project.
The new restaurant, located at 1466 Garden of the Gods Road, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project.
"At Jersey Mikes we are quickly redefining the word fresh," said Tim Holliday. "We're doing this by taking every measure to ensure a quality product goes out the door. We do things like cook our roast beef on-site each and every day and freshly slice all our meats and cheeses for each sub sandwich. We pile all these ingredients on freshly baked bread to create a truly authentic food experience. Everything is quickly made to order in full-view of each customer- just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago!"
Holliday added, "Folks often ask me why I chose to become a Jersey Mike's franchise owner and if I have any advice about franchising. I tell them that I did a lot of research and interviewed the Jersey Mike's leadership team while they interviewed me. I met the entire office staff and everyone was dedicated to the success of the franchisees. I liked that they talked about giving back, community service, and integrity and this translates to how we open and operate our locations.
"For the first five days we're open, we will be raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Since 2013 our two other locations have given almost $15,000 to WWP. In addition to raising money for WWP we are also involved with our local schools through various fund-raising partnerships and have raised over $10,000 that goes directly to those groups. I love this town and the openness of the west. I always build my Jersey Mike's locations with room to sit, relax, and enjoy a great sandwich."
On giving back the Wounded Warrior Project Holliday said, "I work with the WWP because I grew up as the son of an Army Combat Veteran. My dad had visible reactions to loud noises as a result of his service. It was neither discussed, nor diagnosed. Supporting WWP is my way of serving my generation of vets. My father out processed from the Army in 1953 at Ft. Carson after serving in the Korean War and always talked about how beautiful Colorado Springs was. My wife, Christy (Leader) is a 1991 graduate of USAFA and served 10 years active duty flying C-141s out of Charleston AFB. In 2008, as an AF reservist, Christy came back to USAFA as a math instructor. It was a dream of hers to teach calculus at a college level. She asked if I would move to C-Springs and I just said, 'when do we leave'?"
Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families. On that date, America watched in horror as approximately 3,000 people died including hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers. Many warriors note a sense of duty to volunteer for the military following these tragic events.
The Hollidays are exemplary Jersey Mike's franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, Jersey Mike's locations throughout the country have raised nearly $10 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 750,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike's now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide. In just three years, the company has nearly doubled in size. A 2014 Technomic report ranked Jersey Mike's in the top five fastest-growing restaurant chains with sales above $200 million.
The growth is fueled by passionate Jersey Mike's fans who crave their subs made Mike's Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of "the juice" – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection. Jersey Mike's premium meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread and served up with a helping of neighborly banter from a dedicated and high-energy team.
This is the third Jersey Mike's location for the Hollidays. Tim and Christy opened their first location in Colorado Springs in May 2013 and opened another in Fountain in November 2013.
