That's one day with a combined total of about 200 pounds of round dough strands, coated in butter and topped with brown sugar and cinnamon. House of Bread Bakery Café has a tradition of making huge cinnamon rolls for the anniversary celebrations. The House of Bread Founder, Sheila McCann, has made plenty of huge cinnamon rolls since opening the bakery and café nearly 18 years ago in San Luis Obispo, California. "As the years progressed, the cinnamon roll kept getting bigger until we couldn't fit anything more into the oven," says Sheila McCann. The making and sharing of the big roll started out as a way to entertain local customers and now has turned out to be a major event, where hundreds of customers stop by to watch the staff assemble the monster roll.
To celebrate the four year anniversary of the House of Bread Bakery and Café in Anchorage, owners John and Ginna Baldiviez are crafting a 100 pound cinnamon roll. The gooey concoction is based on the same recipe that is used daily to make the popular single serve roll. "The only difference between our popular roll and this monster is that it is 200 times larger, and we give this one away to our customers throughout the day," said Sheila McCann and added, "the show is amazing, customers love to watch the bakers work."
House of Bread Tigard is having a two year anniversary on the same day, Saturday the 31st of January. Terri Evetts, the owner, is going to put a new twist on the giant roll by making mini cinnamon rolls in the shape of a wedding tier cake. Both Tigard and Anchorage bakeries will be opening the doors for all to come see and taste the roll, no purchase necessary. The owners just enjoy sharing the fun.
