Ben & Jerry’s Hits the Road for the 2015 Save Our Swirled Climate Tour

Company Challenges Fans to Take Action to back a 100% clean future for the world.

NEW YORK - March 17, 2015 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The issue of climate change is one that effects everyone across the globe especially people in vulnerable communities from Vanuatu to Red Hook. But what has been clear for sometime now, is that to change everything, it’s going to take everyone. These impacts will affect everyone alike and require an equivalent response for people to step up and take action. Ben & Jerry’s has long fought to bring this issue into the spotlight and stimulate change, and 2015 is no different. The ice cream maker is taking to the streets in its new emissions-free Tesla retro-fitted ice cream vehicle to deliver free scoops of ice cream and encouragement for fans to join the climate movement. The year-long Save our Swirled campaign will inspire citizens around the world to support the global climate movement by joining Avaaz and calling on world leaders to support a transition to 100% clean energy.

Avaaz, an international organization with over 40 million members worldwide and was one of the primary organizers of the People’s Climate March, has helped inspire Ben & Jerry’s passion and belief that the climate challenge can be overcome. The ice cream company has committed to adding 500,000 of its fans to become climate activists over the course of 2015. “When you join Avaaz, you become an agent of change,” said Ben Jerry’s co-founder Jerry Greenfield. Greenfield continued, “this issue is so important people need to be willing to get into the streets.” Of course the company knows that taking action is a lot easier to swallow with a scoop of one of its euphoric flavors. Not only will the emissions from the electric vehicle be free, but so will the ice cream.

So how will ice cream be distributed? This is no ordinary Tesla if one even existed. The Ben & Jerry’s customized vehicle involved removing the back seat to replace it with ice cream freezers. This is “activism meets product sampling” at its finest, and over the thousands of miles and smiles, the car won’t use one sip of gas. The Save Our Swirled tour will head to the West Coast making its first stop in San Diego the first week of April. For a complete list of dates visit benjerry.com.

While the vehicle is new, Ben & Jerry’s work to support the environment is anything but new. The business has taken tangible steps towards positive environmental change. In 2002, Ben & Jerry’s launched a carbon offsets program for its Vermont manufacturing facilities. In 2007, the company ran its first global warming advocacy campaign in partnership with the Dave Matthews Band.

“We've invested early and often in efficiencies throughout our manufacturing facilities, supply chain, and Scoop Shops to increase energy efficiency and shrink our carbon footprint,” said Chris Miller, Ben & Jerry’s Social Mission Activism Manager.
