Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate Paid Customers Over $20 million for Recycling Gently Used Items

Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) April 22, 2015 - Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate, trademark resale brands of BaseCamp Franchising, announced that in 2014 they paid over $20 million to their customers to recycle their gently used clothes and accessories.

According to the 2014 Annual Sales Report, Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate stores recycled more than 10 million used items from customers throughout the United States, paying cash or offering in-store credit. Items not purchased are given back to the customers or donated to local and national charities including the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, Kiva, Make-A-Wish Foundation and buildOn.

“This is recycling at its best,” said Shauna Sloan, Founder of Kid to Kid. “With the exception of bottle recycling in a few states, there are very few programs where consumers are actually paid to recycle. When kids outgrow their clothes and toys, or young adults get tired of a fashionable outfit, they can trade them in for cash or store credit. This allows others in the community to shop and save - paying only a fraction of the cost of what they would spend elsewhere.”

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (as sited by the Council for Textile Recycling), the average U.S. citizen throws away an average of 70 pounds of clothing and other textiles each year. Throughout America, about 25 billion pounds of textiles are generated annually. Of that, just 15 percent is recovered for reuse or recycling. Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate recycles millions of used items to new homes, helping consumers on both end of the cycle.

At Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate, used items sell for about 70 percent less than the new price. Last year alone, their customers saved approximately $140 million by purchasing gently used over new.

With stores located in 30 states and 3 countries, the Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate franchise brand is growing. Kid to Kid buys and sells new and gently used children’s and maternity clothes, toys, books, and baby gear. Uptown Cheapskate targets teens and young adults with name brand clothes, shoes, jewelry and handbags.
