Zaniac Franchise Taps into STEM Education, Prepares Kids for 21st Century Jobs

New After-School Enrichment Concept Aims to Dramatically Improve Lives of K-8 Students, Parents Nationwide

May 18, 2015 // // Salt Lake City, UT - Imagine a world where children beg their parents to learn math and science, and actually kick and scream when it’s time to leave class. This world exists at Zaniac, a national franchise where learning feels like play with programs such as Zaniac Robotics: LEGO®, Game-Based Learning: Minecraft™, 3D Printing and Computer Programming.

The United States is currently ranked 52nd in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education, according to The World Economic Forum. Recognizing that the gap in public school STEM curricula is a major contributor to that ranking, Zaniac’s mission is to provide programs that will prepare today’s kids for future jobs.

“We see that our country is behind in STEM education and we’re working to change that. Bringing a Zaniac Campus to a community is not only a smart business idea, it’s a rewarding way to provide cutting-edge educational enrichment opportunities for children,” said Sidharth Oberoi, President and Chief Academic Officer. “Students have fun at Zaniac, just like they would with karate, soccer, dance or music classes. Most importantly, they are learning necessary 21st century skills.”

After launching the franchise in 2013, the momentum for Zaniac’s peer-based-learning concept continues to grow. Zaniac currently operates two corporate campuses in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah. The first franchised Zaniac opened in December 2013 in Greenwich, Connecticut, and those franchisees have signed an agreement to open 10 campuses over the next five years, including a late summer opening in Westport, Connecticut.

Additionally, a new Zaniac Campus will debut May 21 in South Miami, Florida. Franchisees also have campuses under development in Boston, Massachusetts and Santa Monica, California. Zaniac plans to have 50 franchised locations operating by 2017.

Zaniac Campuses are bright and colorful, featuring glass-walled classrooms with white boards and large multimedia screens. The common areas boast Apple iMacs, robotics tables, manipulatives, and other high-tech tools that keep kids engaged and excited about learning.

“Our curriculum motivates students to actually want to learn more math and science, so they can make better video games, design exciting music videos, or visualize how they could build a house one day,” said Oberoi. “These are the fundamental skills required to succeed in current and future careers.”

The company was founded by Paul Zane Pilzer, a college professor, economist, social entrepreneur and best-selling author. Pilzer served as an appointed economic advisor in two White House administrations and has started or taken public six companies in healthcare and K-12 education.

Zaniac is currently seeking franchisees nationally who have business experience and a passion for introducing STEM education into their communities. The total initial investment to open a Zaniac Campus averages $250,000. A full-size Zaniac Campus is a 2,500 to 3,000 square-foot colorful retail space.
