Woodcraft Sponsors “I Can Do That,” New Online Woodworking Show

Woodcraft is sponsoring “I Can Do That,” a new online how-to show to help woodworkers of all skill levels build projects with minimum tools and time.

PARKERSBURG, W. VA. (PRWEB) August 06, 2015 - Woodcraft is sponsoring “I Can Do That,” a new online streaming video how-to show aimed at beginning woodworkers and those with limited time for building projects.

During each 30-minute “I Can Do That” episode, host Chad Stanton, a full-time licensed contractor and custom furnituremaker for 20 years, guides viewers in making attractive projects that are simple but well designed, using inexpensive materials and basic hand and portable power tools. The owner of Stanton Fine Furniture in Toledo, Ohio, Stanton writes for “Popular Woodworking Magazine,” was a contributing editor to “American Woodworker,” and is an instructor and demonstrator at Woodcraft stores.

“To build nice furniture you need three things: A handful of decent tools that you won’t outgrow, some help getting started and some realistic projects to build. That’s the concept behind ‘I Can Do That’ – a column that was introduced in ‘Popular Woodworking Magazine’ in 2006 to help those new to woodworking get started in the craft, and teach them skills that will last a lifetime,” David Thiel, manager of Popular Woodworking Videos, said. “The projects feature good looks, sound design and simple joinery – and all of them are built with easily available dimensional lumber.”

In 2014, Thiel said, the concept was expanded to video in order to reach a broader audience and teach those who don’t necessarily read the magazine. “But the mission remains the same: To teach beginners the skills they need to become better – and lifetime – woodworkers. Chad Stanton is the perfect series host; his friendly and accessible instruction helps viewers feel as if they’re hanging out in a neighbor’s home workshop and having fun while they learn.”

“Woodcraft’s decision to financially support ‘I Can Do That’ is based on the company’s mission to help woodworkers improve their skills and enjoy their craft, as well as make it easy to begin woodworking and become a skilled craftsman,” Vince Grlovich, vice president for sales and marketing, said. “Projects in this series allow woodworkers the flexibility to build very simply and quickly or upgrade materials and/or tools if they choose to do so. Either way, the end result is a piece of fine woodworking.”

“I Can Do That” projects range from a Curved-Leg Coffee Table to a classic pine Toolbox. Viewers can learn more about each project in a free online manual (PDF format) that explains the tools and shows step by step how to do the basic operations. A new “I Can Do That” episode is uploaded at http://www.popularwoodworking.com/projects/icandothat and the Popular Woodworking YouTube channel every other week. New episodes are free for four weeks and then are uploaded to Popular Woodworking Videos that are available at the magazine’s store.

“Woodcraft is a perfect partner for the ‘ICDT’ series,” Thiel said. “Not only are the majority of the tools and materials used in the projects available in Woodcraft stores, as viewers branch out beyond beginning woodworking, they’ll be able to count on Woodcraft for their future shop needs as well.”
