High-Intensity Interval Fitness Franchise Hosts Guns & Hoses Event to Support Local Charities

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Aug. 10, 2015 // PRNewswire // - Orangetheory® Fitness, the energizing and fast-growing fitness franchise, today announced they will host the first-ever Guns & Hoses charitable event benefitting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) officers will compete against Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FLFR) members to earn money for the charity of their choice. The Guns & Hoses event will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 22 at the Orangetheory Fitness Central Fort Lauderdale studio, located at 2354 N. Federal Highway in Union Planters Plaza.

The FLPD and FLFR will be split into a total of four teams (two from each organization) of fourteen members each. The teams will participate in a VIP class at Orangetheory Fitness and track their calories burned through Orangetheory's OTBeat system. OTBeat is a proprietary heart-rate monitoring technology developed by Orangetheory Fitness that uses Bluetooth to connect to monitors in class. The group that burns the most calories will receive a prize, a donation to the charity of their choice and to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and bragging rights.

The donation for the Guns & Hoses event will come from a silent auction at Orangetheory Fitness Central Fort Lauderdale studio, which began on August 1 and includes items donated by the Miami Marlins, including four field level tickets and on-field batting practice passes, as well as an autographed Giancarlo Stanton baseball. In addition to the Guns & Hoses event and the silent auction, Fort Lauderdale will host a Tunnel to Towers 5k Run & Walk on Sunday, September 13 that Orangetheory Fitness will be participating in as well.

"Police officers and firefighters are not only American heroes but many are a part of the Orangetheory Fitness family," said Dave Long, CEO of Orangetheory Fitness. "It is our pleasure to host a charity event that is not only fun but will give back to those who truly need our help in the local community."

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation was created by the Siller Family to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen's legacy by supporting our nation's first responders and service members. Building for America's Bravest, a program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members.
