Three Elements Massage™ Studios Open in One Year for Ohio Couple

Quality Marketing and Dedication Help Create Quick Success

September 30, 2015 // Franchising.com // Highlands Ranch, Colo. – The husband and wife duo of Darrick and Lisa Zucco have become the first Elements Massage™ (Elements) franchise owners to open three studios in less than one-year. Their successful openings have given Elements Massage™, one of the largest franchised massage brands in the United States, with over 200-plus locations, a new success story. Elements was a top-20 member of the Franchise Times Fast and Serious List in March of 2015.

Setting this openings benchmark in a franchise system that has seen fast and steady growth deserved to be honored, and that’s exactly what happened for the Zucco’s at the Elements Massage™ National Conference in Las Vegas in August. The couple was honored as the Strongest Opening for 2014, an annual award that recognizes the best new studio opening of the year. In addition to their three-studio success, the Zucco’s also have a lease signed to open their fourth studio this fall.

As a former occupational therapist, Lisa has been able to apply her experience in health and wellness to her new endeavor with Elements. Lisa oversees the day-to-day operations of her studios with managers at each location working as her right-hand people. Darrick, who still works a full-time job, plans and executes the marketing for each studio. Together, they have fast-tracked their studio openings and are running three Elements studios in the Dayton and Columbus Ohio areas. Lisa says the quick openings have not been easy, but sticking to their process has helped to set expectations for each new studio.

“We knew that the best chance we had to make our long-term plan work was to open as many studios as we could as fast as we could,” said Lisa Zucco. “We really focused our efforts on ensuring we hired really good managers and we spent enough money on marketing to get the word out. With each studio we open we get a little more familiar with the process, and because we have opened three so quickly, we are able to keep the plan fresh and keep the surprises to a minimum.”

While Lisa relies on her managers to keep each business running while she gives proper attention to each studio as needed and to understand what she would require from her managers, Lisa works in her studios like a manager would. She feels it is highly important to make herself part of the team to relate to challenges and stay in tune with the needs of each studio.

“To fully understand the business and the importance of the service path and the dynamic between therapists, I needed to work in the studios,” said Lisa. “Doing so helped me understand how to manage the studios and what to expect from my managers. We also created training documents for all new employees that I think have made a big difference in each studio. I am very happy to know what I know now after working in the studios on a regular basis.”

The Zucco’s found Elements through a broker back in 2013 when they were looking to find a franchise business. Lisa credits the first time she met the Support Center staff for Elements at Meet the Team Day as a crucial reason for why they ultimately decided to become Elements franchisees.

“The Meet the Team Day was big for us because we got to see first-hand how much support we would have as franchisees,” said Zucco. “We were new to this and we knew we would need assistance. Meeting the employees at Meet the Team Day gave us the confidence that we would have the support we needed to be successful. The fact that Elements would give us a chance for success in business and help people change lives was exactly what we were looking for from a franchise system.”
