British Swim School Dives into Seven New Markets across United States

Child Water Safety and Survival School to Create Splash with Life-Saving Teaching Methods in Uncharted Regions

October 20, 2015 // Franchising.com // FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - According to Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, participation in formal swimming lessons reduces the risk of drowning by 88 percent amongst children ages 1-4. Spearheading this ideology is British Swim School, the pioneer of a non-traditional infant water safety program that provides life-saving techniques to children as young as three months old. Since its conception in 1981, the brand has changed the way parents view swim lessons and is answering the continued demand for services by inking several franchise deals across the country.

British Swim School announced today that they will be moving into seven new, underserved markets: Austin, Boston, Columbus, Detroit, Seattle, Philadelphia, and Cherry Hill, N.J. These new signings will cater to approximately four to five thousand families in each area with a mission to increase the national survival rate of children involved in water accidents. British Swim School already has a strong presence in Maryland, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York and executives are looking forward to bringing the leading concept to families in need.

As part of British Swim School’s ambitious expansion plans, Philadelphia will be one of the first cities introduced to the brand. Fronting the local operation is Stu and Marisa Gelbord, whom are no strangers to the water safety industry. With nearly 35 years’ experience in the corporate food industry and 25-years of swimming behind Stu, the Philadelphia location is projected to serve as one of the brand’s leading pools.

“When exploring franchise opportunities, I was not only impressed with British Swim School’s business model but the amount of confidence exuded by the young pupils and parents after they experienced a swim lesson,” said Gelbord. “I’m proud to be invested in a business today that not only is changing children’s safety instincts in the water, but one that is working to instill a sense of pride and accomplishment in these young lives after leaving our pool. A confident child can conquer the world.”

Conducting an average of 250,000 swimming lessons each year, British Swim School reaches more than 8,000 students per week with a program that serves as a trademark for the brand alone. Each child, regardless of age, is placed in their correct skill level and will have certain achievable objectives. The child will be graduated from that level and moved onto the next without a waiting period, as found in a course driven program. Even as the cooler months approach, British Swim School sees a heightened number of enrollments due to a parent’s desire for their child to nail down water survival skills before summer rolls around again.

To accomplish its mission and fill an increasing demand from parents seeking a program that teaches their child to survive a water accident, British Swim School developed a franchise opportunity that is rapidly expanding throughout the country. While other swim concepts require a large expense for pool construction, British Swim School’s business model allows franchisees to lead classes from pools in existing fitness chains, residential buildings, therapy pools and hotels, which drastically decreases the initial investment costs.

The franchise concept is a perfect match for the business person who wants to have the opportunity to grow, make high income, yet wants to be part of something worthwhile. British Swim School has an emotional connection in the service industry and is touching people in a way that may save a life. Serving as a leader in the emerging and growing water safety segment, British Swim School signed seven new territories in the last six months and projects to sign an additional 10 by April of next year.

“Our mission is to provide quality and innovative water survival skills to children and equip them with the ability to stay safe in the water, all while having fun doing it,” said Rita Goldberg, CEO and Founder of British Swim School. “As we continue to have success expanding across the country, I look at is as the brand doing its due diligence by spreading our wealth of knowledge to as many parents and children as we possibly can.”
