Get In On The Action: Tim Hortons® NHL® Trading Cards Return And Offer New Digital Experience

Tims launches new augmented reality app that brings to life the 2016-17 Tim Hortons Collector’s Series NHL® Trading Cards

September 21, 2016 // Franchising.com // OAKVILLE, ON – Starting today, hockey fans across Canada can once again get their hands on the Tim Hortons Collector’s Series NHL® Trading Cards. This year, Tim Hortons is stepping up their game by allowing Guests to experience the all-new 2016-17 edition of NHL® trading cards in a fun, interactive way!

Tims has developed a new app bringing the players to life through augmented reality, making these cards the first NHL® Trading Cards of their kind. Guests simply need to download the Tim Hortons Augmented Reality Hockey Cards app and scan their cards to see authentic models of NHL® stars in their real life environment. The app is available for both Android and iOS and recognizes all 100 cards in the base set. Discover hidden animations when you scan different card combinations side by side.

“Tim Hortons has a long standing history of supporting hockey in Canada and we’re thrilled to continue this tradition through the return of our NHL® trading cards,” said Sami Siddiqui, President, Tim Hortons Canada. “We’re excited to offer a new and engaging experience this year with this app, bringing the players of Canada’s favourite game to life.”

Trading Cards are available in a three-card pack at restaurants while supplies last for $1 plus tax, with each beverage purchased ($1.99 plus tax, without beverage purchase). These were developed in partnership with the NHL and the NHLPA, and their exclusive licensed trading card partner, Upper Deck.

“The set Upper Deck developed for Tim Hortons offers a variety of compelling cards fans of all ages will enjoy collecting and an incredible new experience with the augmented reality piece Tim Hortons developed,” said Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck. “The partnership last year had hockey fans flocking to Tim Hortons to get their packs and we are excited to team up once again with this new set of NHL® Trading Cards.”

Once again this year trading will extend online, as each physical pack of trading cards contains a unique PIN that unlocks a digital trading card. When fans register at www.collecttowin.ca, they can collect and trade digital trading cards with fans across the country for a chance to win 1 of 5 VIP trips to the 2017 NHL® All-Star Game, as well as 1 of 100 EA SPORTS™ NHL® 17 Playstation® Prize Packs and over 120,000 other awesome prizes.

“Hockey cards are an integral part of the rich history of the game; they’re coveted memorabilia, informative guides, and an eternal snapshot of a hockey moment in time,” said Brian Jennings, NHL Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Marketing. “This collection of Tim Hortons Collector’s Series NHL® Trading Cards will allow hockey fans – across generations – to connect with the current era of elite NHL players.”

The newly designed Tim Hortons Collector’s Series NHL® Trading Cards highlight 99 of today’s NHL® players in the base-card set plus a Tim Horton player card (#001 in the set). Fans can also keep an eye out for limited edition cards including 87 Sidney Crosby NHL® Icon Autographed cards and 100 Nathan MacKinnon Autographed Timbits Hockey cards.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of the next generation of hockey cards with our longtime partners at Upper Deck. Card collecting is something that many of our players grew up with as important parts of their lives, so to be part of such an innovative breakthrough with the Tim Hortons Collector’s Series NHL® Trading Cards is something that makes us very proud to be involved with,” said Sandra Monteiro, NHLPA Chief of Global Business Strategies. “Through this revolutionary new set from Tim Hortons, hockey fans across the country will be able to experience and have their favourite players come to life in a brand new light – via a groundbreaking smartphone interface.”
