The restaurant’s focus on premium coffee and leadership within the third wave of coffee movement aligns perfectly with Japan’s rabid coffee culture. According to Statista, in 2015 alone the Japanese consumed over 1 billion pounds of coffee. And demand is expected to increase by 25% in the next 5 years, according to the International Coffee Organization.
“Opening an international store has always been a dream of ours,” said founder Sean Brennan. “Tokyo is the perfect location for The Pie Hole because of the country’s current coffee consumption. The Pie Hole will be bringing a variety of flavors and specialty coffee to Tokyo and we know the Japanese consumers will love it.”
Both sweet and savory pie flavors are served at The Pie Hole including popular choices like the Mexican Chocolate Pie and the Earl Grey Tea Pie. The savory pies are unique in flavors including Shephard’s Pie and a Mac ‘n’ Cheese Pie. The Pie Hole has been featured on The Cooking Channel show Unique Eats and has been named one of the “Top 12 Best Pies in America” by Conde Naste Traveler.
The Pie Hole worked closely with their partners to select recipes that would appeal to the local Japanese flavor preferences.
The Tokyo store is open daily from 8 A.M. to 10 P.M. and located just steps from the busiest train station in the world, Shinkjuku station in LUMINE Shinjuku. This is the first Pie Hole unit of ten slated for development in Japan.
The second location is expected to open in Ginza in spring 2017. Ginza is one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world, attracting visitors and regulars alike from across the globe.
The Pie Hole is partnering with Fransmart, the franchise development company behind the explosive growth of brands like Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
