Style Encore® Named a Top New Franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine

One of the Fastest Growing Women’s Franchise Brands in North America Recognized for Outstanding Strength and Longevity; List Notes Concepts Expected to be the “Next Big Thing” in Franchising

May 05, 2017 // Franchising.com // MINNEAPOLIS - In just under four years since its inception, Style Encore has been named one of the “Top New Franchises” in the nation by Entrepreneur magazine. Designed by women, for women, Style Encore is a fresh, trendy resale concept that buys and sells gently-used clothing and accessories at its 57 locations throughout North America with 13 more franchised locations opening soon.

The companies on the “Top New Franchises” list are ranked based on the scores they received when run through the publication’s Franchise 500 formula, which is a comprehensive evaluation of more than 150 data points in the areas of costs and fees, size and growth, franchisee support, brand strength and financial strength and stability. The list aims to highlight the newcomers that are helping to shape the franchise industry’s future with innovative products and services, creative marketing methods and ever-evolving technological tools. These are the companies that offer new franchise owners the chance to latch onto the next big thing. Style Encore ranked No. 44 on the publication’s 2017 list.

“We’ve had a fantastic start with Style Encore and the future is nothing but bright,” said Steve Murphy, president of franchising for Winmark Corporation, Twin Cities-based parent company of popular resale franchises Style Encore, Plato’s Closet®, Once Upon A Child®, Play It Again Sports® and Music Go Round®. “Our success with Style Encore is a validation of the systems we’ve perfected in resale franchising as well as the hard work and commitment of our franchisees. Their dedication is unwavering and we are forever grateful to have such great partners.”

Winmark Corporation has been the top player in the $17 billion resale sector for nearly three decades. At the start of second quarter, the Company had 1,184 franchises in operation under its retail brands, a 30 store increase versus this time last year. An additional 70 retail franchises have been awarded and are in the process of opening. Its resale brands also recycled more than 145 million items last year into local communities by reselling quality used merchandise back to its customers. Style Encore accounted for 2.3 million of the recycled items in 2016.

Style Encore is a major growth vehicle amongst Winmark Corporation’s family of resale brands. Oftentimes, franchisees will own a Style Encore as well as a Once Upon A Child or Plato’s Closet store to complement their existing offerings. In January, Entrepreneur magazine named Once Upon A Child the top children’s retail franchise and Plato’s Closet the overall top retail franchise for the third consecutive year in its annual Franchise 500 ranking of the top franchises in the nation. The two fast-growing resale brands are geared respectively toward children and teens to twenty-somethings.

At Style Encore, consumers can expect a wide selection of the latest styles in casual and business attire at great prices, from leading brands such as Ann Taylor®, Banana Republic®, Chico’s®, Coach®, Gap®, Talbots®, The Limited® and White House Black Market®, among others. Plus, unlike most secondhand retailers, the stores are easy to shop and have a fresh, relaxed boutique feel.

Murphy added, “Our high standards of providing quality, gently used merchandise in a clean, welcoming environment is a distinguished characteristic that sets our brands apart from other resale concepts in the marketplace. Nearly all of our franchisees were customers prior to opening their own store, so it’s been a key driver in both consumer and franchise growth.”

Style Encore entered the Canadian market earlier this year and has a vast amount of franchise territories available throughout North America. Winmark Corporation is actively seeking entrepreneurs to grow the preferred store for fashionistas and bargain hunters.
