McAlister’s Deli Aims For A Grand Slam By Encouraging Locals To “Vote For Sweet Teas”

With Less Than One Week To Go, The Fast-casual Restaurant Asks The Public To Step Up To The Plate And Vote For A New Atlanta Minor League Baseball Team Name

July 18, 2017 // Franchising.com // ATLANTA, GA. - McAlister’s Deli® raised a glass when learning there may be another squad in the tea ballgame. The Triple-A baseball affiliate in Atlanta is undergoing a name change and “Sweet Teas” is on deck as a final choice. McAlister’s Deli - home of McAlister’s Famous Sweet Tea™ - is encouraging fans everywhere to brushback all other choices and call up Sweet Teas as the ace.

“Looking at the current finalists, there is no contest. Sweet Teas has to be the name of the Atlanta minor league baseball team,” said Robert Dimson, vice president of marketing at McAlister’s Deli. “McAlister’s Deli originated in Mississippi and is headquartered in Atlanta. The team’s Double-A affiliate has roots in Mississippi with the Triple-A team based in Atlanta. Coincidence? I think not.”

There are currently five names fighting for the starting position in addition to Sweet Teas and McAlister’s is hoping they will all strike out: Buttons, Big Mouths, Gobblers, Lamb Chops, and Hush Puppies.

McAlister’s is encouraging all fans to vote for the Sweet Teas at the following website by Monday, July 24. If Sweet Teas becomes the official team name, guests at Georgia and Mississippi restaurants will receive a complimentary tea at a future date. Participating restaurants may vary.
