America’s Most Unauthorized Sandwich: South Philly Cheesesteaks & Fries Renames Its Chick Philly
‘The Cease & Desist’ Following Legal Threat From Cult Chicken Brand
Crispy Chicken Sandwich, In all Its Wonderful Litigiousness, Will Remain on the Menu and Wrapped in the Letter from An Unnamed Competitor’s Legal Counsel
September 07, 2017 // Franchising.com // MORRISTOWN, NJ - Chick Philly fans rejoice! South Philly Cheesesteaks & Fries, a fast-growing QSR brand, and favorite among authentic Philly cheesesteak lovers and fans who like a spin on the classics, today announced that its guest-favorite crispy chicken sandwich, formerly known as the Chick Philly, will remain on its menu despite a legal threat from a certain unnamed chicken brand’s legal counsel. The delicious sandwich made with seasoned, crispy, golden brown chicken tenders, pickle chips and mayo, perfectly drizzled with honey and served on a fresh-baked 10-inch roll will now officially be known as, The Cease and Desist.
Wrapped in the legal letter South Philly Cheesesteaks & Fries received, The Cease and Desist, in all its wonderful delicious litigiousness, will receive its due process and continue to be available for purchase at participating locations nationwide, for a suggested price of $7.49. Prices may vary by location.
“When we launched the Chick Philly in April, the sandwich became an instant hit with our customers,” said Andrea Carella, Brand Manager of South Philly Cheesesteaks & Fries. “A competing chicken empire was not so happy about that and sent us a threatening legal letter. As we did not want to let our loyal guests down, we decided to tweak things a bit so that we would abide by their request and still be able to sell it. During the tweaking process, we came up with the idea to also wrap The Cease and Desist in the legal letter. In the end, we are happy we were able to keep The Cease and Desist on the menu at our restaurants nationwide.”
Since opening in 1986, South Philly Cheesesteaks & Fries has been a favorite of Philly cheesesteak fans who enjoy authentic and modern day spins on one of the world’s most famous sandwiches. Representin’ old school South Philly by serving 100% Original Philly Cheesesteaks, guests can create traditional combinations like the "Whiz wit" - Cheez Whiz with grilled onions; the "Prov without" – consisting of Provolone cheese without grilled onions – or customize their own served alongside its fresh hand-cut fries.
