Jack in the Box ® Rolls Out Aid Program to Support Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

First Responders and Employees at the Heart of Relief Plan

September 08, 2017 // Franchising.com // SAN DIEGO, - In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey throughout the Texas Gulf, Jack in the Box® announced today an immediate relief plan that places first responders and impacted restaurant workers at the heart of its efforts. Beginning today, free combos are available to uniformed first responders and county officials at Jack in the Box restaurants in the Houston area.

“Our employees in the Texas Gulf have been an inspiration to their Jack in the Box family and the community at large,” said Frances Allen, Brand President at Jack in the Box Inc. “From working tirelessly to provide shelter to neighbors displaced by the devastating flooding to working hard to re-open our team has been a symbol of strength and an example of what’s possible when we band together.”

With a strong restaurant presence across the region, Jack in the Box is committed to supporting recovery over the long term. A multi-month recovery plan is under development that will help ensure continued, sustained aid from restaurants, customers, franchisees and business partners.

“For nearly 55 years, our restaurants have been an integral part of many of the communities devastated by Harvey,” added Allen. “So we’re taking a long-term view when it comes to supporting our neighbors while they recover from this disaster.”

Jack in the Box’s additional immediate relief efforts include the following:

  • Free Thank You Meals for First Responders and County Officials: We are humbled by the selflessness of first responders and county officials working tirelessly to help and feel honored to provide free combo meal to uniformed first responders in the area. Uniformed police, firefighters, paramedics, ARC volunteers, military, National Guard, Coast Guard, Park Rangers and county officials who show a badge are invited to Jack in the Box restaurants in the greater Houston area for a free combo September 6 through September 12.
  • Donations to No Kid Hungry in Restaurants Nationwide: Our partners at No Kid Hungry have donated $300,000 to the Houston Food Bank and other related relief and recovery efforts. We invite you to join in the effort by donating to No Kid Hungry at any one of our restaurants http://jbox.is/NKH.
  • American Red Cross Donation: The Jack in the Box Foundation is committed to helping the American Red Cross’ relief efforts and invites you to as well. The Jack in the Box Foundation will match your donations with a contribution of our own of $50,000. We invite you to participate by donating to the American Red Cross online or by texting HARVEY to 90999 to give a $10 donation. Donations enable the American Red Cross to provide immediate and long-term assistance.
  • Employee Relief Assistance: We are especially inspired by the spirit of our restaurant employees. From working tirelessly to provide shelter to neighbors displaced by the devastating flooding to working hard to re-open restaurants, our South Texas team has been a symbol of strength and an example of what’s possible when we band together. The Jack in the Box NFA has made a $100K donation to support the employees at franchised restaurants affected by the Hurricane. Additionally, through the Contrib Club, more than $300,000 is available or eligible employees who have been financially impacted by Harvey. This is an internal program that corporate employees have funded to help co-workers victimized by qualified disasters. We also continue to pay full wages to company employees despite restaurant closures or shortened operating hours.
  • Meal Donations to Shelters Throughout the Texas Gulf: In the wake of the devastation, Jack in the Box will donate food to local shelters and disaster relief agencies throughout the region.

Jack in the Box will continue raising financial aid and providing meals to communities in need over the coming weeks, which will be supplemented by its long-term recovery plan that will ensure communities receive support over the months to come.
