Bubbakoo’s Burritos Goes Hollywood

Burgeoning Jersey Shore-based burrito chain expands to the West Coast with Los Angeles deal

July 02, 2019 // Franchising.com // POINT PLEASANT, NJ - Bubbakoo’s Burritos, a Jersey Shore-based eatery that touts Mexican food fused with American flavor, is now coast to coast with a new deal calling for five restaurants in Los Angeles. The L.A. deal is the first West Coast expansion for the booming brand.

Following a slew of development deals beyond New Jersey, including Pennsylvania, New York, Kentucky and Georgia, the new deal in Los Angeles will bring Bubbakoo’s to more than 50 locations open or in development, with company plans calling for 500 locations to open within the next five years.

“L.A. is known for its taco lifestyle and embrace of cultural foods. Yet, customers’ taste are changing and many more are craving the creative, quality Mexican-American food we have to offer,” said CEO Paul Altero. “We are thrilled to be expanding to Los Angeles and look forward to merging the Cali beach vibes with our Jersey Shore culture.”

The five L.A. locations will be owned and operated by the Brannon family. The family operates other local businesses in the area.

Bubbakoo’s offers the usual fast-casual burrito fare such as burritos, tacos, bowls and quesadillas, but with 16 different protein options, including crispy buffalo chicken, hibachi steak and shrimp, Sriracha shredded pork, and Southern-style barbecue chicken and pork. Vegetarian options include a bean-cheese-guacamole combo and batter-fried jalapeños. And, originals such as The Chiwawa, a cheese-smothered, panko-crusted fried rice ball, keeps Bubbakoo’s faithfuls coming back.

The burgeoning burrito joint also offers sides such as jalapeño poppers, Southwest egg rolls, chips, salsa, queso, guacamole, curly fries and nachos, as well as desserts including batter-fried Oreo cookies and “love chips,” which are tortilla chips dusted in powdered sugar and drizzled with caramel or raspberry syrup.

“L.A. may have taco joints, but they have never seen anything like Bubbakoo’s,” added Altero. “From our cooked-to-order protein options to our proprietary Chiwawa, you’re going to find something new on the menu each time. These offerings keep customers coming back again and again.”
