Executive Care of Northern Virginia Partners with Veterans Against Alzheimer’s for Fundraising Campaign

September 11, 2019 // Franchising.com // HACKENSACK, N.J. - Executive Care of Northern Virginia is taking a stand to help veterans in the community. A recent study has shown that veterans have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Of the population age 65 and older, 49% of veterans will develop Alzheimer’s symptoms while just 15% of the general population over 65 will develop Alzheimer’s.

Darren Peterson, the owner and operator of Executive Care Northern Virginia, wanted to give back to a cause close to his heart as his wife is a veteran of the United States Navy.

"When I met Erin Rayner of Veterans Against Alzheimer's, a light bulb went off and the path was clear,” Peterson said. “We have to do our part to fund the fight against Alzheimer's, so we are thrilled to partner with Poet's Walk and Us Against Alzheimer's/Veterans Against Alzheimer’s to raise funds for a truly great cause.”

The fundraising drive has already kicked off with 30 collection boxes placed in select businesses across Northern Virginia, including independent and assisted living facilities, memory care facilities and more. The coins will be collected through mid-October and will culminate with a fundraising dinner. All proceeds will be donated to Veterans Against Alzheimer's.

"I've experienced life with Alzheimer's firsthand when I helped my uncle care for his wife in the later stages of the disease,” Peterson added. “As a veteran-owned home health business, we see clients with some form of dementia every day. Veteran's Against Alzheimer’s is a perfect fit for our mission."

Founded in 2004, Executive Care offers a variety of caregiving and skilled services to help families often overwhelmed with the responsibility of providing care to a loved one – all while ensuring the patient remains in the comfort of his or her own home. Services range from companionship and help with meal preparation and household chores to help with bathing, personal hygiene, and personal care. Executive Care also serves individuals recovering from illness, injury or surgery.

“We love to see our franchisees participating in and helping the community around them,” said Lenny Verkhoglaz, CEO of Executive Care. “Darren has been a great example of why we believe in helping people, and we are confident his fundraiser will be a success.”
