TGA Premier Sports Expands into 77th U.S. Market with new chapter on California’s Central Coast

Newest Chapter is TGA’s first to Offer Beach Volleyball Curriculum to Local Kids

September 18, 2019 // Franchising.com // Ventura, CA - TGA Premier Sports (TGA), the leading force introducing youth sports into schools and communities through programs that combine athletics and academics, continues its nationwide expansion into its 77th U.S. market, California’s Central Coast. On pace to enroll its one-millionth participant by 2020, TGA’s youth sports “delivery system” is helping strengthen families and communities and reverse trends of declining youth sports participation in cities across the country leading to healthier lifestyles.

TGA’s sustainable, scalable model of before- and after-school enrichment programs and local sports camps has become one of the nation’s most impactful developers of community-based sports programs for kids ages five to 12.

TGA Premier Sports Central Coast in Ventura County, Calif. was launched by Kristin Hatfield, a local executive, inventor, entrepreneur, working mom and lifelong athlete, as a way to give back to the community that helped shaped her passion for sports and its many rewards.

Hatfield, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics degree from Humboldt State University, has been the owner and operator of a river rafting company, an environmental consultant, a regional sales manager in the medical billing industry and vice president of sales in convention services. She is also owner and inventor of EquiptBaby, creator of the Comfy Canopy, a collapsible, portable bassinet that weighs less than an ounce.

Having seen the impact and successful engagement TGA has had in other communities, Hatfield recently decided it was her time to give back. “TGA is a community of people who are giving back to our youth in our local communities. I want to show up and be there with the children,” she says. “I want to be the first person who puts a golf club or tennis racquet in a child’s hands or teaches them to dig a volleyball. I want TGA programs to be the best part of their day. The feeling of accomplishment through sports has no comparison!”

TGA Premier Sports Central Coast offers TGA Premier Golf, Tennis, Ultimate (Frisbee) and Volleyball and will also be the first TGA Chapter to offer a Beach Volleyball curriculum. “This past summer, with the support of my local beach HOA, I did a soft opening for TGA Central Coast and hosted a Beach Volleyball camp. The TGA volleyball curriculum is awesome and I just made some slight tweaks to incorporate the sand. The diving drill was the kids’ favorite along with serving into the target for points,” Hatfield says.

Hatfield’s territory includes the coastal communities in Ventura County. “We’re coordinating with Olivas Links and the School’s PTA to organize a fundraiser that incorporates families playing golf together and raises funds for the PTA at local schools in the Ventura Unified School District,” she says. The chapter will also be hosting its first Fall Break Tennis Camp on the courts of a local high school in October.

With Hatfield’s new franchise, thousands of youngsters will be impacted in and around California’s Central Coast. “When children engage in sports, they begin to build and nurture skills that allow them to strive to become our future leaders. Through TGA’s dynamic curriculum, we will incorporate station-based athletic skill development activities, STEAM Labs to explore educational concepts through sports, and key life lessons including teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, and leadership,” she adds.

TGA impacts communities by introducing sports that empower kids directly into schools and community centers through before- or after-school enrichment programs, spurring participation in a way that starts at the grassroots level but has national implications.

“Kristin Hatfield has incredible enthusiasm for her community, sports and how together they can change the lives of youth and families,” says TGA CEO Joshua Jacobs. “Using TGA’s blueprint will allow her to customize the local experience families will get through TGA programs. On the coast, beach volleyball is in the fabric of the culture, so it’s a natural that Kristin would take this new program offering and run with it. She’s going to be an amazing asset to the families in her community.”

TGA creates an accessible player pathway for students and their families to build on their new-found sports passion and advance further in the sports. From introductory programs, to recreational camps, clinics and family programs, engagement in these programs can lead to juniors playing on high school and college teams. With registration fees at less than $200, TGA’s eight-week enrichment programs are also extremely affordable for families interested in starting their kids in a sports program.

TGA provides all of the equipment for kids at no cost in the program, including its own line of custom golf and tennis equipment to provide all players an affordable option to get into the sport. The program can also be utilized anywhere on school campuses regardless of weather, including gymnasiums, hallways, cafeterias, fields and blacktops.

Through donations that fund scholarships at TGA chapters around the country, the TGA Sports Foundation is enabling kids who wouldn’t otherwise take up the sport to learn and grow from it. “Our goal is to impact the development of a child’s sports career throughout all levels of the player pathway,” Jacobs says. “Introducing youth to sports and creating a passion is one thing, but engaging a child who exhibits talents and giving them the tools to grow continue on with a sport is more important.”

Over the long term, Hatfield intends to grown her business to the level that donations from her Central Coast chapter fund registration fees for in-need students on a per site/per season basis.

Families and schools nationwide have embraced the TGA model and its programs because it creates a healthier and safer environment for students at schools and community centers. The school-based curriculum includes tennis skill progression, education subjects and STEAM Labs, in addition to physical fitness and health components.
