Bubbakoo’s Burritos to Open First California Location

Burgeoning Jersey Shore-based burrito chain sets West Coast roots in Lancaster

October 01, 2019 // Franchising.com // POINT PLEASANT, NJ - Bubbakoo’s Burritos, a Jersey Shore-based eatery that touts Mexican food fused with American flavor, is set to open its first California location. The restaurant will be the first of five planned for the Southern California region.

Located at 2053 W. Avenue J in Lancaster, CA, the restaurant will be owned and operated by veteran franchisee Michael Brannon. He plans to open four more restaurants in the coming years, and though exact addresses have yet to be announced, Brannon is considering several options in his westward expansion toward the Los Angeles metro area.

“I couldn’t be more excited about bringing the first Bubbakoo’s to California,” said Brannon. “After meeting with the corporate team I knew it was the right fit for me. It’s an exciting brand to be a part of right now, and with the high quality food and expert customer service, the community will embrace the Bubbakoo’s lifestyle.”

An Antelope Valley local for 30 years, Brannon is no stranger to restaurants or franchising as he owns and operates two Marie Callendar restaurants in the area as well.

“We couldn’t have found a better partner to bring Bubbakoo’s to California,” co-CEO and founder Bill Hart said. “Michael operates his other brand with such high standards we knew he was the perfect fit for us.”

Founded in 2008, Bubbakoo’s has always valued bringing new and flavorful options to its customers, starting with proteins. The choices include hibachi-grilled steak and shrimp, hand-shredded carnitas, and battered mahi mahi. As for chicken, guests have four options: crispy fried, crispy buffalo, marinated and grilled, and salt-and-pepper shredded. Non-meat options include bean and cheese or vegan Boca patty.

Guests use their selected protein to build burritos or bowls, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, or taco salad, or to top a proprietary menu item called a Chiwawa, which is a deep-fried, softball-sized, panko-crusted cheesy rice ball. A selection of eight sauces – ranging in flavor and heat from Southern Style BBQ to Sweet Chili and Ghost Pepper – change the entrée flavor profiles and keep things from getting boring.

The burgeoning burrito joint also offers sides such as jalapeño poppers, Southwest egg rolls, chips, salsa, queso, guacamole, curly fries and nachos, as well as desserts including batter-fried Oreo cookies and “love chips,” which are tortilla chips dusted in powdered sugar and drizzled with caramel or raspberry syrup.

“Southern California is known for its love of tacos and embrace of cultural foods. Yet, customers’ taste are changing and many more are craving the creative, quality Mexican-American food we have to offer,” said co-CEO and founder Paul Altero. “We are thrilled to have Michael on the team and are confident that the community will embrace Bubbakoo’s.”
