Woofie’s Launches Woofie’s Academy™ For Aspiring Groomers

All-inclusive pet-care franchise commences in-house accelerated training program

November 07, 2019 // Franchising.com // ASHBURN, Va. - Just months after launching their franchise opportunity and opening three locations - Woofie’s, an emerging business in the $70 billion professional pet care industry, has just opened Woofie’s Academy™ at Woofie’s corporate offices in Ashburn, Virginia.

Woofie’s Academy™ is a first-of-its-kind, professional grooming school, combining more than 15 years of experience in the pet care services industry with the knowledge and expertise of the Paragon School of Grooming.

“The Paragon name is well recognized in our industry,” said co-founder and co-owner, Amy Reed. “The Paragon curriculum is rooted in the vast experience and teachings of industry icon, Melissa Verplank, a Certified Master Groomer and the founder of Pet Entrepreneur. Paragon has been training pet techs and pet stylists for decades. Their team includes members of Groom Team USA and other AKC-certified, award-winning grooming experts so we are beyond thrilled to partner with them.”

The goal of Woofie’s Academy™ is to recruit external candidates as well as pet care professionals from within the Woofie’s franchise system, to complete this advanced, multi-tiered certification program. All Woofie’s Academy™ students will receive tuition-paid, practical, hands-on learning, in the highest standards of grooming, pet safety, and career professionalism. Woofie’s Academy™ will also have a strong focus on training students to work within a mobile environment, an industry trend that has risen in demand due to the level of convenience and personalized service it provides. Reed says, “Woofie’s Academy™ not only provides students with a great career opportunity, it standardizes the training and creates a pool of talented groomers for our franchisees.”

Keeping in the Woofie’s tradition of service, Woofie’s Academy™ trainees will work closely with rescue and shelter groups to hone the skills needed to complete the course. Upon graduation, all Woofie’s Academy™ graduates will be given an opportunity to become part of Woofie’s team of talented, highly-qualified grooming professionals and stylists.

Founded in 2004, Woofie’s offers personalized pet sitting and dog walking services, which include consultations with a member of the management team, in-home overnight care and Bed & Biscuit overnight care. Their mobile pet spa provides one-on-one, cage-free grooming services such as: breed-specific haircuts, nail trims, hydrosurge baths and specialized de-matting and de-shedding treatments. The customization of their services for each pet and the focus on personalized customer experience further set Woofie’s services apart from others in the industry.

“Training with Woofie’s Academy has been a wonderful experience,” Leesburg Woofie’s Academy student Katie Krumme said. “I love that I’m not just learning about haircuts and styles but also how to identify health and skin issues and how to administer first aid to dogs. I looked into other grooming schools before, but they were either too far from me or too expensive. Getting the education and training I need with Woofie’s Academy just made sense and it’s such a great opportunity!”

Woofie’s prides itself in its company-wide community involvement with local animal shelters and co-owners and co-founders Amy Reed and Leslie Barron plan to incorporate their value for the community into Woofie’s newest expansion plans. In addition to their annual dog food/supply sponsorship and their “Paws & Claus” fundraising event, Woofie’s Academy students will practice by grooming dogs from local animal shelters and rescue groups.

Woofie’s Academy offers three levels of certifications, Groom Tech, Pet Groomer, and Pet Stylist, and job opportunities are available upon the successful completion of the training. Study materials are offered online, in a take-home format, or at the Woofie’s corporate offices in Ashburn, VA, while hands-on training will take place in Woofie’s mobile pet spas.
