Former NBA Player Kevin Ollie Partners with Modern Acupuncture to Make Lives Better, Especially for Stressed Out Youth

Nation’s leading acupuncture franchise offers holistic medicine that alleviates stress and anxiety among other benefits. Over 25% of the 400,000 patient visits to Modern Acupuncture since 2017 were for treatment of stress or anxiety.

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (PRWEB) November 18, 2019 - Modern Acupuncture™, the nation’s first acupuncture franchise that aims to bring holistic treatment to the masses, has partnered with Kevin Ollie, former NBA player and former head coach for the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team, winning the 2014 NCAA National Championship, to raise awareness about the potential for holistic medicine to transform and save lives.

“My mission is to have Modern Acupuncture knock on every door and deliver a gift of holistic healing wrapped in self-care management. Being a former athlete and national championship-winning coach, I know that this can benefit all of us regardless of our age, gender, race or socioeconomic background,” said Ollie. “Stress is a real issue affecting every part of our society and Modern Acupuncture is a potential solution for so many, especially for our youth who are more stressed-out than ever. I am eager to do what I can to increase awareness and accessibility for all.”

In 2018 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) published an alarming report that the suicide rate in the U.S. had increased by 30 percent over less than 20 years. Dr. Oren Miron from Harvard Medical School, further analyzed the CDC data to understand the impact on adolescents and young adults and found that in 2017 there was a 47 percent increase since 2000 in suicide deaths amongst the age range of 15-19. In fact, suicide is now the second-highest cause of death among people aged between 15-24. Dr. Michael Lindsey, Executive Director, McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research and Constance and Martin Silver Professor of Poverty Studies, studied the impact on black teens and found that the rate of self-reported suicide attempts since 1991 had increased by 73 percent.

While it isn’t exactly clear what is driving these trends, a 2017 Gallup Poll found that eight out of 10 people reported feeling stressed during their day and 44 percent reported that their stress levels had increased over the last five years.

In a 2019 study, Modern Acupuncture identified that stress was one of the leading conditions in which patients sought treatment. Since opening in 2017, Modern Acupuncture has seen over 400,000 patients visits and over 25 percent of these visits were specifically for stress, and anxiety.

“We have been overwhelmed with the positive stories from our patients who have reported turning a corner after suffering from debilitating stress and anxiety’ said Matt Hale, CEO of Modern Acupuncture. “Acupuncture is a game-changer in many people’s lives, and we have developed an approachable solution at Modern Acupuncture that helps demystifies acupuncture in general. Many are adopting acupuncture into their lifestyle and routine as it serves as a tool for people that are dealing with pain and stress. Partnering with Kevin Ollie will continue to spread our mission of making lives better and help people of all ages and backgrounds across the nation.”

Ollie followed his passion and partnered with respected physician and entrepreneur Charles L. Anderson, MD, MPH, MBA to develop the third Modern Acupuncture location in New England in Burlington, Mass., located at the Village at Burlington Mall, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2020.

“I partnered with Corey Bowdre (former Red Sox, Business Development) to help me bring as many people from across diverse backgrounds into this movement. Coach Ollie is a real guy, looking to make a real difference, and I am really fortunate to have him on my team,” said Dr. Anderson.
