Loudoun County Pet Care Franchise Offers Free Services and Webinars To Help Community (and Pets!) During Covid-19

Woofie’s® innovates during pandemic by offering free walks for pets of healthcare workers, concierge services for homebound clients, curbside pet care services, and health and wellness initiatives for the community.

May 01, 2020 // Franchising.com // Ashburn, VA. - While most frontline healthcare workers are spending long shifts at the hospital, their dogs are spending more time alone at home. To help with this, Woofie’s® is offering free dog walks and grooming services to frontline healthcare workers to ease their minds and give their cooped-up pups some much needed grooming, attention and exercise.

Amy Reed, co-founder of Woofie’s®, says, “Our healthcare workers already have so much to think about it in the wake of this pandemic. If we can help ease their minds by caring for their pets while they're away, we are more than happy to do it. It also gives us the opportunity to show them how grateful we are for the work that they do.” Woofie’s® clients and community members have shown an outpouring of support for this initiative by donating money to sponsor the walks.

And that is only one of a myriad ways that Woofie’s® is giving back to their community during the Covid crisis.

The idea for Woofie’s® “Fetch” concierge service came about as a result of the stay-at-home mandate. Once it passed, people no longer needed pet sitters and dog walkers and overnight, requests for Woofie’s® services declined. “In 15 years we have never laid off one person. Then, suddenly, we had to start thinking about furloughs”, says Reed. Meanwhile, grocery store delivery companies like Instacart were backed up and Reed saw a way to pivot the business model to help the employees and the community. Fetch provides Woofie's® trusted team members to run errands and deliver medications and groceries for clients who are homebound. 100% of Fetch proceeds go directly to the attendants, enabling team members to continue earning an income even though the demand for pet sitting and dog walking services has declined.

While the demand for traditional Woofie’s® mobile grooming services continues to thrive, the necessity for no-contact services became imperative. To assist the community in maintaining the health of their pets, Woofie’s® is now offering no-contact, curbside pet wellness services at their corporate office in Ashburn. Clients drive to the office at their scheduled appointment time and wait curbside while a Woofie’s team member (in personal protective gear) takes their dog for a nail trim or bath.

The Covid quarantine has kept people indoors, secluded, and largely sedentary for the past several weeks. In order to combat loneliness and isolation as well as to help boost health and wellbeing, Woofie’s® has launched a free community health and wellness initiative for their clients and employees. Live Zoom yoga classes, online workouts, daily walks, and community posts on Instagram or Facebook help keep the community connected while they work on getting healthy together.

Woofie’s® is dedicated to pet wellness and to kick off National Pet Week May 4-8, Woofie’s® has organized several, free pet care webinars with local pet experts to educate the community about ways to keep their pets healthy from home. The webinars will be held daily and will cover topics such as DIY grooming techniques for coat maintenance between grooming appointments, acclimating a new dog into a home, training tips and tricks, and pet nutrition.
