WaveMAX Laundry Looks to Wash Out the Competition

First and largest franchise of its kind is revolutionizing the way vended laundry operations are perceived and structured

Looks to expand its national footprint with more than 70 new locations under contract

June 10, 2020 // Franchising.com // Jacksonville, Fla. - The vended laundry industry has not seen much significant advancement since the first laundromat opened in Fort Worth, Texas 86 years ago. But times are changing, and the long time stale industry is finally experiencing some much needed innovation and modernization thanks to WaveMAX Laundry.

Already firmly established as the fastest-growing franchise of its kind, having grown its national footprint in the last few years to include 16 locations in six states, WaveMAX is looking to take a larger market share of the industry. The burgeoning brand already has an additional 22 locations under development and nearly 50 others under contract. At least 15 of those locations are expected to open by the end of the year.

“A laundromat should be more than just a means to an end for visitors. It can be a satisfying, productive experience that creates positive memories and encourages loyal, repeat customers,” said WaveMAX CEO Mike Roberts. “Our innovative service model, echo-friendly machines and industry-leading technology is elevating the customer experience beyond a frequent errand, and we look forward to bringing that experience to even more markets all across the country.”

At WaveMAX, customers are offered the choice of doing their own laundry or utilizing the laundromat’s wash-dry-fold service.

For those choosing to do their own laundry, each WaveMAX is outfitted with the industry’s most efficient and environmentally friendly washers and dryers. The washers conserve water by automatically weighing your clothes and using the precise amount of water required for the best possible wash. The dryers have a built-in sensor that determines the “dryness” of the clothes and automatically adjusts the temperature for optimum drying. This provides the cleanest laundry possible while saving energy as the load moves through its drying cycle.

More time-starved customers can drop off their laundry at WaveMAX and have it done for them. WaveMAX’s highly trained staff will wash, dry and fold customers’ clothes. They will also hang up dresses, collared shirts, and dress pants to make the service as convenient as possible. Soap, dryer sheets, hangers, and storage bags are included, and service is typically completed within 24 hours.

WaveMAX further differentiates itself by using industry-leading technology to further provide a seamless experience. At each machine, customers can use quarters the coin operated way; use a contactless card system that allows customers to load value with cash, credit or EBT; or pay for laundry using their smart phone with the WaveMAX app. The app also alerts customers via text message about cycle-completion, and can be used to check machine availability ahead of visiting the laundromat.

“Traditional coin-operated laundromats overbuild locations, have too much equipment, and too large of a space, creating a ‘zombimat’ destined for failure,” said Roberts. “Our locations provide customers with a clean, well-maintained space and a friendly staff. Everything we offer - from our efficient equipment to our drop-off service to our revolutionary use of technology - is created with our customers in mind and gives them an awesome laundry experience that keeps them coming back.”

The national expansion plans come at a time when WaveMAX continues to rapidly expand its national footprint. Today, there are 16 locations open and operating in six states, with an active growth pipeline of 22 new laundromats in development and nearly 50 others under contract.

To augment the company’s growth, WaveMAX Laundry is actively seeking single and multi-unit operators, as well as Area Representatives in select markets across the country. Including a franchise fee of $49,950, the estimated required investment for a single, 3,000 square foot facility ranges between $600,000 and $800,000. Construction runs about $250,000 and the equipment package costs approximately $325,000, which is completely financed.

Franchise development is being spearheaded by Dennis Mulgannon of Franchise Scale who has built six national brands in the past decade including Home Care Assistance, Junk King, The Flying Locksmiths, Nerds to Go, Surface Experts and now WaveMAX.
