Famous Toastery Featured on Restaurant Business Magazine’s “Future 50” Highlighting the Nation's Fastest-Growing Chain Restaurants

The better breakfast concept continues to lead the way in the industry through unparalleled storewide sales growth, a groundbreaking menu and a comprehensive franchising model.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (PRWEB) September 23, 2020 - Since launching its franchising opportunity in 2013, Famous Toastery has established itself as a runaway leader in the better breakfast and lunch segment. With nearly 30 locations in the Southeast, the “toastery with the mostery” continues to keep the momentum strong and shows no signs of slowing down. Recently, the franchise was featured on Restaurant Business magazine’s “Future 50,” an article highlighting the nation’s 50 fastest-growing chain restaurants.

According to the article, Famous Toastery’s year-after-year storewide sales increased by more than 38% in 2018, totaling close to $43 million. The company is set to reach the 30-unit milestone early next year. Part of the reason the brunch concept has been positioned for such success is its cautious and deliberate growth model.

"We didn't want to grow for the sake of growing and are now being selective about expansion, especially in areas outside the Southeast,” Famous Toastery CEO and co-founder Robert Maynard told Restaurant Business. “A franchisee has to be able to open at least five units in a new city to compete, and not all can do that.”

In 2005, Maynard and his best friend Brian Burchill opened the first Famous Toastery in Huntersville, North Carolina. The pair made sure to prioritize using high-quality ingredients and making meals from scratch, pioneering a series of breakfast trends, including all-day breakfast, lobster specials and avocado toast. This, along with an emphasis on customer service, has resulted in strong growth since they started franchising.

The founders attribute Famous Toastery’s success to a variety of factors, from the strength of its partners to the idiosyncrasy of the word “toastery.” After initially branding as Toast Cafe, the duo decided to change the name of their business. Maynard told Restaurant Business that since there were a lot of other Toast Cafes, using the made-up word of ‘Toastery’ ensured the brand would always come up in Google searches.

Even as the brand grows, Maynard and Burchill have remained very hands-on within the day-to-day business, vetting all prospective franchisees and scouting real estate. The corporate team is very involved with overseeing franchisee operations, which promotes a level of control and profitability while supporting the overall infrastructure.

"Franchising is a growth model, but you're working with many different personalities and can lose control," Maynard told Restaurant Business. "Keeping the brand strong is important to attract the right people."

To further support brand strength, Maynard and Burchill have designed a system in which every time a new store opens, the franchisee must choose a charity partner and donate all of the first two days’ proceeds to that local nonprofit, immediately forging a powerful relationship with the community that sets the franchise up for success.

“We are thrilled to have been included in Restaurant Business magazine’s ‘Future 50’,” said Maynard. “Our focus on making sure that patrons, staff members and franchisees alike all feel warmly welcomed by the brand at every point of contact sets us apart from the competition and continues to position us for success.”

Famous Toastery’s franchising model, ground-breaking menu and impressive year-after-year sales growth has also earned it a place on Enterprise’s 2019 Franchise 500, Inc.’s 5000 list of fastest growing companies, the Wall Street Journal, FOX Business Television’s Cavuto: Coast to Coast, Vogue, Entrepreneur Magazine, Forbes and FOX and Friends.
