How Dr. Fredrick Jacobs Made His Passion Happen
The path from radio personality to celebrity chef and life in between it all
January 11, 2021 // Franchising.com // OCALA, FL - To borrow from Irene Cara’s 1980s hit “What a Feeling,” Dr. Fredrick Jacobs is someone who embodies the phrase “take your passion and make it happen.” Fueled by a lifetime of culinary influences, Dr. Jacobs founded and spearheads the nation’s first soul food restaurant chain, Celebrity’s Soul Food. The quality casual concept serves up innovative soul food paired with exceptional customer service to make each guest feel like a star.
Entrepreneurship is just one of the pursuits of Dr. Jacobs (or Dr. J, as he’s fondly referred). This versatile man holds a number of degrees that he’s put into practice throughout his career, including a Bachelors in Business Administration, a Masters in Counseling, and not one, but two Doctorate degrees- one in Theology and the other in Counseling. As a man of faith, his guiding star is his religion and his lifelong commitment to helping others. He instills in his corporate team the mantra of “To be good, we must do good.”
As a counselor, Dr. Fredrick Jacobs lends his support to others through his radio show, TV show, and Podcast, “Dr. J The Counselor.” His shows airs on music legend Stevie Wonder’s LA-based radio station, KJLH 102.3. Through his experience in the entertainment business as an on-air personality, Dr. J has found a way to meld a beloved cuisine with celebrity.
Prior to developing his franchise business, Celebrity’s Soul Food, Dr. J leveraged his passion for food toward an executive catering service. His client list included notable celebrities in the TV & Film industry, as well in the music world- Steve Harvey, Kirk Franklin, Fantasia, SWV, Stoney Jackson, Monica, Warren G, Flex Alexander, Shanice Wilson, Ashanti, and more. From this success, Celebrity’s Soul Food, the restaurant concept was born. The recipe is simple, but impactful... serve up high quality food and treat every guest like a VIP.
To make Celebrity’s Soul Food stand out from its competitors, they lean into innovation with their menu. They focus on local flavors and specialties, while putting their own twist on soul food classics.
“We invite guests to be adventurous with us. We feature legendary recipes that honor soul food’s essence, but we also want to challenge guests to explore non-traditional combinations,” said Dr. Fredrick Jacobs, Founder and CEO of Celebrity’s Soul Food.
Gold-Dusted Chicken Wings, anyone? How can you not feel like a star when you order this dish? How about the classic sweet and savory combination of Chicken and Waffles, but elevated with Red Velvet Waffles? Feel like taking a walk on the wild side? Give the Barbeque Glazed Alligator Ribs or the Jerked Jackfruit Pineapple Bowls a try. Hungry yet?
“Our belief is that soul food transcends cultures, that it can bring people together from various walks of life and tastes. We cater to meat lovers, vegetarians, vegans, and even flexitarians,” said Taja Jacobs, Chief Sustainability Officer.
