Buff City Soap Set to Open Soap Makery in Jackson

Handmade soap experiential retailer continues southern expansion by opening fourth Mississippi location

January 19, 2021 // Franchising.com // Jackson, MS - Buff City Soap is gearing up to open its first Jackson location. The new location is slated to open in late January and will be located at 4500 Interstate 55 North Frontage Road, Suite 160 in Jackson. The brand is known for their handmade bath and body products that are made fresh daily in-store by local soap artisans that utilize plant-based ingredients. The location will be owned and operated by longtime best friends Candie Hedge and Kara Bandy who opened a Buff City Soap Makery in Dickson, TN in 2019, with additional plans to open six more in the future.

“Jackson is the perfect place for Buff City Soap,” stated Hedge. “We cannot wait to share our handmade bath bombs, soaps, and other body products with the Jackson community.”

Founded in 2013, Buff City Soap has created a high quality alternative to commercial soap products full of harsh chemicals, detergents, animal fats, and sulfates. By giving customers the chance to see the whole making process live in each Soap Makery, Buff City Soap is disrupting the consumer goods industry by focusing on transparency of ingredients and process.

Candie and Kara have been best friends for the past 20 years and they always knew they wanted to open a business together. Candie spent 16 years with Walmart where she was responsible for implementing new programs and procedures and ensuring the sustainability of operations. Kara, a former long term resident of Jackson, has previous experience working in various business and marketing roles. After researching the Buff City Soap concept further, the duo felt that their backgrounds were perfect to open their own Buff City Soap business.

“We fell in love with the products. When our customers visit the store, they will get an experience unlike anything else in the retail industry, which will bring them back. They get to see the soap making process, and have the opportunity to personalize their products, and our customers really enjoy that,” said Bandy.

Each Buff City Soap store offers more than 30 unique and customizable scents across dozens of handcrafted soap products; including its famous soap bars, bath bombs, foaming hand soap, and even laundry soap. The brand’s products are crafted by local artisans at the in-store Makeries, which allow guests to customize the scent and ingredients used in the process to create a unique scent profile.
