During the pandemic, more time at home has led to an increased focus on lawn care. This uptick in interest is perfect timing for Mabee as he deploys the small bots - which operate with battery power, GPS technology and artificial intelligence - in local yards. “The technology aspect of Mowbot is what appealed to me and what I think will appeal to others,” said local owner Roger Mabee. “About three years ago, my neighbor and I were out pushing our lawnmowers. He made the comment, ‘We need robotic mowers. Everyone in Europe has one!’ That comment really stuck with me.”

COVID-19 Inspired Lifestyle Changes

The pandemic has slowed down a lot of businesses - including the oil and gas industry, where 61-year-old Mabee spent most of his career. That downturn forced him to look for a new career path, and he decided it was time to take control of his future and become an entrepreneur. During his research, Mabee’s former neighbor sent him a flyer from Husqvarna and told him about Mowbot…just the kind of robotic mowers they had talked about three years earlier!

“I enjoy interacting with people and being outside,” said Mabee. “Once my wife and I started researching lawn care - an outdoor industry that has boomed during the pandemic - we realized robotic mowers are a great fit for our area. There are several military bases around that provide a great outlet for technology. This territory is the perfect fit for robotic mowers.”

North Carolina-based businessmen Tony Hopp and Jeff Dudan founded Mowbot because they see the robot revolution that is coming. They are embracing the opportunity to be a major disrupter in the outdated lawn care industry, which is benefitting from this high-tech, environmentally friendly alternative.
