Wetzel’s Pretzels Earns Spot on Franchise Business Review’s 2021 Culture100 Awards List and Top Food Franchises for 2021
Franchise Owners of Innovative Snack Category Leader Are Highly Satisfied According to Independent Survey
July 30, 2021 // Franchising.com // PASADENA, Calif. - Wetzel’s Pretzels (Wetzel’s), announced that it was recently named to Franchise Business Review’s annual “Top Food Franchises for 2021” and its second annual “Culture100” list. The “Top Food Franchises for 2021” includes 30 brands that are outperforming their competitors and franchisees’ expectations, while the “Culture100” list highlights the results of surveys from more than 24,800 franchisees at hundreds of brands.
Radiating its signature Southern California vibe, Wetzel’s was founded in Redondo Beach, California 25 years ago and has grown to command a cult-like following in the communities it serves. The brand inspires a fanatical following with its colorful presence, “gram-worthy” snacks and the small moments of pure pretzel bliss that it creates with friends, family and colleagues.
“We know that our franchisees are the driving force behind our sweeping movement to ‘Bring Pretzels to the People’ each and every day,” said Jennifer Schuler, CEO at Wetzel’s Pretzels. “This recognition from Franchise Business Review is truly straight from our franchisees, and it’s encouraging to hear their confidence in the culture at Wetzel’s and the business opportunity that led to Wetzel’s securing a spot on the Top Food Franchises of 2021 and the Culture100 list,”
After surveying more than 10,200 franchise owners across many of today’s leading food brands, Franchise Business Review identified the award-winning top franchises. Franchisees were questioned about leadership, training and support, financial opportunity and core values as well as several more personal questions concerning business lifestyle and overall enjoyment of running their business. This year, Wetzel’s ranked among 30 brands that scored high enough to exceed Franchise Business Review’s benchmarks for the Top Food Franchises award list.
For the “Culture100” Awards list, Wetzel’s was ranked among franchise brands representing nearly 25,000 franchise owners that participated in Franchise Business Review’s research on the best franchise cultures. Franchisees were surveyed on 33 benchmark questions about their experience and satisfaction regarding critical areas of their franchise systems. The brands that were selected received the highest overall ratings based on 12 questions specifically focused on leadership, core values, whether they enjoy being part of the organization, and if they would recommend their franchise to others.
The brand earned a 76 Franchisee Satisfaction Index (FSI) score, a five-point advantage above the franchise benchmark. Franchisees also rated Wetzel’s highly on categories including Training & Support, Franchise System, Leadership, Core Values, Financial Opportunity and General Satisfaction from franchisees - all above the established benchmark set by Franchise Business Review.
“Yes, things were bad overall for the restaurant industry this past year. But there were plenty of food brands, fast-service franchises in particular, that had a great company behind them guiding them on how to pivot their businesses to more efficient pick-up and delivery models,” said Michelle Rowan, President and COO of Franchise Business Review. “Our research into hundreds of brands really shows which ones held up the best when rated by their franchise owners. The franchise companies that have the honor of being named to our Culture100 list and Top Food Franchises of 2021 are clearly among the best of the best franchise opportunities.”
Wetzel’s continues “heating up” as it builds on its current momentum with the new accreditations from Franchise Business Review. After nearly three decades, Wetzel’s maintains its small company feel and creates personal connections with all members of the Wetzel’s franchise family.
