Three beloved fan favorites, presented in Alamo’s signature style from September 23 through October 7, tease the company’s imminent arrival in Lower Manhattan

September 09, 2021 // Franchising.com // New York, NY - With its Lower Manhattan theater set to open later this fall, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will offer a taste of its movie programming with three free-admission outdoor screenings on the Fosun Plaza at its new location at 28 Liberty. Featuring three revered contemporary classics set in the city that never sleeps, these outdoor shows are a chance for Alamo to introduce itself and connect with Manhattan’s movie-lovers.

“We’re so excited to be a part of this community,” says Alamo Drafthouse founder and Executive Chairman, Tim League. “Until we can open our 14 screens to all manner of events, movies and parties, these outdoor shows give us a chance to meet our new neighbors and throw fun movie parties on our new patio!”

Films will be projected on a screen on 28 Liberty’s South Plaza, which features a signature sculpture by Jean Dubuffet and a Sunken Garden by Isamu Noguchi, every Thursday night at 7:00 pm from September 23 through October 7, and will be complemented by themed festivities and popcorn before the show.

“Fosun is pleased to bring back the 28 Liberty Film Series with Alamo Drafthouse,” said Thomas Costanzo, Executive President at Fosun. “The Plaza hosts a variety of community events and we are excited to welcome back the popular movie nights.”

2021 28 Liberty Fall Film Series Schedule:

  • September 23 - Escape From New York
The outdoor screening series kicks off with John Carpenter’s 1981’s cult classic, set in a futuristic, rough and tumble New York City and full of the kind of thrilling action and oddball weirdness we love.
  • September 30 – You’ve Got Mail
Make a date with NYC! YOU’VE GOT MAIL has been called the rom-com of all rom-coms and a lover letter to New York City and we couldn’t agree more!
  • October 7 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Turtle Power! Grab your friends and family and catch the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in their first big-screen adventure. Cheer on the heroes in a half shell under the stars in the very city they’ve sworn to protect. Costumes are encouraged, and surprises are in store!

28 Liberty is a historically significant office tower located in the heart of New York City’s Financial District, with modern amenities and direct connection to six subway lines and the city’s mass transit hubs. During the past several years, Fosun has transformed the 60-story, 2.2 million-square-foot class-A office tower through a comprehensive repositioning program.

In addition to lobby, elevator and infrastructure upgrades, Fosun has created a 200,000-square-foot retail space below the historic 28 Liberty plaza. The 60th floor of 28 Liberty is home to Union Square Hospitality Group’s Manhatta, which offers extraordinary dining with 360-degree views of New York City, including New York Harbor, the East River, Hudson River, Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty.
