First-Time Firehouse Subs Franchisees Bring the Heat with First Location in Brampton, Ontario

October 13, 2021 // Franchising.com // BRAMPTON, Ontario - Firehouse Subs announces the grand opening of its first location in Bowmanville, Ontario at 9055 Airport Road on Wednesday, October 13, under the ownership of first-time Franchisees John Medeiros and Jerry Rego. Firehouse Subs serves premium meats and cheeses steamed and piled high on a toasted sub roll, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments.

As a Brampton-native, Medeiros is thrilled to bring the Firehouse Subs brand to his community. No stranger to the restaurant industry, he was a franchise consultant for Booster Juice for over ten years before deciding to open his first Firehouse Subs restaurant in Ontario. He was introduced to the brand when he was tasked with opening a Booster Juice franchise in Oshawa. Medeiros ventured to the nearby Oshawa Firehouse Subs restaurant nearly every day for lunch and became so passionate about the quality of food Firehouse Subs has to offer. Learning how these subs save lives through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada was ultimately the “cherry on top” for Medeiros. He is looking forward to serving and supporting the Brampton community.

Medeiros and his business partner, Rego, have worked together for the last 15 years and are lifelong friends. As a restaurant business veteran, Rego worked in the quick service restaurant industry for 22 years. He originally learned of the Firehouse Subs brand while traveling in the United States many years ago and quickly fell in love as the “quality of food and service can’t be beat”. He has since followed the brand’s expansion in Canada and has become a dedicated customer ever since. Now, Rego is thrilled to open the Brampton Firehouse Subs restaurant alongside Medeiros.

“When I was first introduced to Firehouse Subs, I found myself going every day because their subs are so satisfying- one of the best food products I’ve ever had! Once I learned more about the brand and how Firehouse Subs gives back through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, I was sold,” said Medeiros. “Jerry and I are honoured to be able to provide the heartfelt service and delicious food Firehouse Subs is known for to the Brampton community. Giving back to hometown heroes while providing hearty and flavorful subs to Bramptonians is a dream come true!”

The new Brampton Firehouse Subs restaurant, located at the busy Queen and Airport intersection, is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Guests can order takeout service at the counter inside, over the phone or online, as well as through third-party delivery apps.

Medeiros and Rego are dedicated to continuing Firehouse Subs’ commitment to helping public safety organizations through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada®, which has granted more than $1.5 million to hometown heroes throughout Ontario.

Founded by former firefighting brothers, the new restaurant décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service through photos and equipment donated by local fire departments. It boasts a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas that features the beautiful “Flower City” clock tower located in Chinguacousy Park details. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,200 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina’s wrath inspired Firehouse Subs founders, Chris and Robin Sorensen, to establish the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in the U.S. Ten years later, with the opening of the first Canadian restaurant in 2015, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada was born with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and education opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has granted more than $1.5 million to hometown heroes in Ontario, along with more than $62.5 million in 49 of the United States and Puerto Rico through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Each restaurant recycles its pickle buckets, available to guests for a $3 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
