Husband and Wife Duo Bring the Heat with First Firehouse Subs® in Westbrook

Restaurant Features the Brand’s New Community Design

December 20, 2021 // Franchising.com // WESTBROOK, Maine - Firehouse Subs® announces the grand opening of its first location in Westbrook, Maine, located at 96 Rock Row Blvd. Suite 140. It will feature the brand’s new Community Design, which includes enhancements made to provide a better Firehouse Subs experience for guests, in addition to a new back-of-the-house layout with a more efficient flow for Firehouse Subs crew members. The Westbrook Firehouse Subs will open its doors to the public on Monday, December 20, 2021 under the ownership of multi-unit Franchisees Michael and Michelle Koman.

This is the third restaurant for Komans and the fifth Firehouse Subs location in the greater Portland-Auburn area. After teaching sustainability at University of South Carolina for nearly 15 years, Michael and Michelle moved back home to Maine to grow their family in 2015. While expecting their first child, the husband and wife duo considered many business opportunities and took their time vetting which brands aligned with their goals and aspirations. They would often frequent their local Firehouse Subs during Michelle’s pregnancy, which sparked the idea to open their own restaurant. The Komans love the subs, but more importantly how the brand cares about people and is dedicated to heartfelt service and public safety through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. They opened their first restaurant in Biddeford, Maine in 2016 and their second restaurant in Dover, New Hampshire in 2019. As locals, the Koman family are thrilled to open their own restaurant at home in Westbrook.

“This restaurant has been a long time coming! We've been excited to introduce the Firehouse Subs brand to our community for years and to finally open Westbrook Firehouse Subs is a dream come true for our family,” said Michael Koman. “This small business is where my wife and I will work together every day. It’s where our kids and their friends will work someday. As a local family-owned restaurant, we look forward to getting to know our guests, serving up hearty and flavorful subs while giving back to our hometown heroes.”

As a child, Michael’s father was a police chief in Maine. Growing up in a police household showed him the importance of supporting local heroes. He then dedicated 24 years to the military and is currently an active duty National Guard soldier. The Komans are dedicated to sharing the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has granted more than $656,000 in Maine. A portion of every purchase at any Firehouse Subs in the U.S. benefits the Foundation, allowing the Foundation to achieve its mission of providing lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.

The Westbrook Firehouse Subs restaurant, located conveniently in the massive mixed-use development, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in-restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments. In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks to fuel any occasion. The updated Community Design of this new location has a repositioned ordering area and a designated space for Rapid Rescue To Go® orders made online.
