Kumon Tops Franchise 500 Education Category For 21st Consecutive Year

Kumon Is Ranked No. 6 Overall on Entrepreneur’s Annual List

January 07, 2022 // Franchising.com // RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. - Entrepreneur magazine has ranked Kumon No. 1 in the education category and No. 6 overall in the 2022 Franchise 500, released today. This is the 21st consecutive year that Kumon has topped the education category and the second consecutive year that Kumon has been in the Top 10 overall on the prestigious Franchise 500 listing.

Entrepreneur’s annual rankings are based on outstanding performance in areas including unit growth, financial strength and stability and brand power. The Franchise 500 ranking is considered an invaluable tool for franchise recruitment.

“Kumon’s position at the top of the education category speaks to the strength of our franchise opportunity,” said Mike Shim, senior vice president of field and operations for Kumon North America. “Kumon’s proven business model gives hundreds of new franchisees in the U.S. and Canada the confidence to take the leap and start their own business every year. When entrepreneurs become Kumon Instructors, they can not only make a meaningful change in their own lives but also leave a lasting impression on the lives of children in their communities.”

Kumon’s stellar ranking comes during a period of strong growth for the education enrichment franchise. In 2021, Kumon opened 65 new locations in the U.S. and Canada.

For children from preschool to high school, Kumon is an after-school math and reading enrichment program that goes well beyond traditional tutoring. Unlike other academic programs, Kumon is individualized for each child. Kumon’s curriculum takes a step-by-step approach to learning, helping children develop strong math, reading and writing skills. Kumon Students develop confidence, increase focus and improve study habits on the way to unlocking their true potential.

“We look forward to helping create more successful math and reading students in new communities throughout the United States and Canada this year,” Shim said.
