Golden Corral® Continues Strategic Franchise Growth

Legendary, Endless Buffet Brand Focusing Franchise Expansion Nationally and Internationally

May 24, 2022 // // RALEIGH, N.C. - Golden Corral, the nation’s largest all-you-can-eat buffet chain, announced today a strategic franchising initiative that will accelerate its expansion plans, both nationally and internationally. Focused on enhancing its buffet experience while offering great value, family-oriented mealtimes and outstanding hospitality, Golden Corral is setting forth on a nationwide franchise development plan targeting markets in urban and suburban settings as well as areas throughout Puerto Rico.

Rising above the challenges presented to all restaurants and buffet brands in the past two years, Golden Corral opened several new locations throughout 2020 and 2021. Plus, new locations are opening in key regions for the concept. Golden Corral has deals signed for Queens County, Long Island and Yonkers in New York, as well as Dallas, Texas and Puerto Rico. Also notable, the brand just completed an area development agreement for suburban New Orleans, in Gretna, Louisiana. The pipeline is made up of both new franchisees joining the Golden Corral family, such as the ownership group opening in Gretna, as well as existing franchisees reinforcing their unrelenting belief in the brand by adding more locations to their portfolio.

Guest count has rebounded strongly, with the brand’s most loyal users visiting at a pace of 70 times annually.

Golden Corral has been serving customers since 1973 and offering an attractive franchise opportunity since 1987. The brand has grown to be the largest all-you-can-eat national buffet chain thanks to its talented collection of franchisees and stable executive team. In addition, the organization has empowered franchisee committee participation and feedback to help in the development of various initiatives. One example of this was the rollout of a new Golden Corral buffet restaurant design, referred to as ‘Gateway.’ The executive team gathered input from its franchisee committee and guests to create this new design, which has the franchise system and fans alike abuzz. The new look includes:

  • More space around guest tables to increase the flow throughout the restaurant
  • Oversized windows for increased natural light
  • Fireplace for aesthetic warmth and a sense of home
  • Enhanced interior layout with the kitchen and all bars at one end, and all seating at the other end, to create a quieter and more enjoyable dining experience

Additionally, the brand has implemented new technology to stay in-tune with current consumer preferences. This includes a loyalty app for guests to earn reward points toward future meals, a mobile ordering platform and curbside pickup. Drive-thru service is being tested in several locations. In recent months, franchisees have been given the option to serve beer, wine and frozen alcoholic beverages, while maintaining the family dining feel that customers know and love.

As the brand continues to expand into key markets, Golden Corral is actively seeking qualified single-unit and multi-unit owners. Ideal franchisees should have operations or ownership experience in the full-service restaurant industry. The brand is also looking for individuals with a strong business acumen and have an experienced operator on their team that can help run and manage the restaurant. Franchisee candidates must have at least $2.5 million in assets and $500,000 in liquid assets. This can be met by an individual or partnership.
