Former Goodcents Franchise Owner Buys Shawnee Location
August 18, 2022 // Franchising.com // DE SOTO, Kan. - Sam Singh's retirement didn't last long, which didn't surprise his family at all. Just four months after selling his Goodcents restaurant in Emporia, Singh was ready to return to restaurant life.
Singh and his son, Mike, are the new owners of the Goodcents at 22724 Midland Drive in Shawnee. The Singhs are making very small changes to start but plan to renovate the store this winter.
Sam Singh moved his family to Kansas from California in 2001 and opened the Emporia Goodcents, which he owned and operated for 20 years. Mike Singh said he loved working alongside his dad in the restaurant. "I've been helping him at the restaurant on weekends and at night since I was able to climb on a stepstool," he said.
Last year, Sam Singh finally decided to retire so he could move to be closer to his family, after his son, Mike, moved to Lenexa in 2016 to take a job in the trucking industry. Sam Singh traveled a little bit before deciding he needed more to do. After a trip out west to visit his daughter, he told his family, "I don't know what to do now. There's only so much you can do with the grandkids."
Sam Singh recruited his son to help at the new restaurant. Mike Singh expects to take over the family business someday when his dad really retires - whenever that may be.
"We are so glad to have Sam back to Goodcents and know he will do great things in Shawnee," said Goodcents CEO Farrellynn Wolf. "We look forward to a long and successful relationship with the Singh family."
