Houston’s Kolache Shoppe To Open Location In Pearland

February 16, 2023 // Franchising.com // PEARLAND, Texas - Kolache Shoppe will open a location in Pearland, Texas. Franchisees Cecilia and Luis Rey have partnered with Kolache Shoppe owners Lucy and Randy Hines to helm the new location at 11940 Broadway, located within Pearland’s new Broadway Plaza shopping center. The bakery will open in Summer 2023.

“We are thrilled to have the Reys share our time-tested kolaches with the residents of Pearland and the community they call home,” says Randy. “Luis and Cecilia are a natural fit for our company culture. We can't wait to cheer them on as they introduce themselves to Pearland’s breakfast scene."

Cecilia, a Houston native, and Luis, who immigrated from Mexico more than a decade ago, established their home in Pearland in 2021 to raise their two young children in a town they’ve always loved. They knew one of their goals in life was to own a business, and opening a franchise seemed a way to get started, with guidance through the process. As loyal customers of the bakery’s Heights location, the Kolache Shoppe immediately called to them.

“We love Kolache Shoppe’s warm atmosphere and have always felt welcomed as soon as we walk through the door,” says Cecilia. “We want to bring that to Pearland. Not just a place to grab a quick breakfast but where our customers feel like they are a part of the family and look forward to coming to our bakery.”

The Pearland Kolache Shoppe’s new buildout will be reminiscent of the bright, inviting design of the Heights and Kingwood locations, complete with warm wood accents, white subway tile and bold blue-and-white patterned motifs. A drive-thru window will allow for quick takeaway ordering and pre-order pickups of pastries and locally roasted coffee, which will undoubtedly prove popular to students, parents and staff of Shadow Creek High School, which is situated behind the Plaza. It’s locale is also ideal for commuters heading into Houston via 288.

Kolache Shoppe is a long-time Houston favorite thanks to its sweet and savory kolaches that use the original 1970 recipe for its soft and pillowy yeast dough. In addition to two dozen signature flavors - from classic apricot, poppy seed and apple to sausage, egg and cheese, smoked brisket and venison sausage - the bakeries offer monthly specials on weekends, prepared with local, seasonal ingredients or in collaboration with area chefs.

Taking over the first Kolache Shoppe, located in Houston’s Greenway Plaza, from founding operator Erwin Ahrens in 2014, the Hineses modernized the popular bakery while honoring its legacy before launching its franchise program that now includes bakeries in the Houston Heights and Kingwood. The Pearland bakery and the Reys are a welcome addition to the Kolache Shoppe family.
