Houston’s Kolache Shoppe Opens New Location in Pearland

September 14, 2023 // Franchising.com // PEARLAND, Texas - Kolache Shoppe is excited to announce the opening of its newest franchise location in Pearland, Texas, just south of Houston. Owners Lucy and Randy Hines are delighted to partner with franchisees Cecilia and Luís Rey in expanding to the town’s new Broadway Plaza shopping center, conveniently situated at 11940 Broadway St., Ste. 170, Pearland, TX 77584. This latest Kolache Shoppe franchise quietly began serving patrons after Labor Day weekend and is eagerly anticipating a week filled with Grand Opening events, scheduled from Tuesday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 8.

The Team

“We’ve had our eye on Pearland for several years now,” says Randy Hines, who, together with his wife, Lucy, took over the Kolache Shoppe brand in 2014. “We are thrilled to have Cecilia and Luís representing Kolache Shoppe in a vibrant new market and are beyond excited to finally be open and serving such a great community. The energy is already palpable, and we can't wait to celebrate our grand opening with the Pearland community next month.”

Cecilia, a Houston native, and Luís, who immigrated from Mexico more than a decade ago, established their home in Pearland in 2021 to raise their two young children in a town they’ve always loved. As loyal customers of the bakery’s Heights location, they were attracted to the brand and saw the potential in bringing a Kolache Shoppe to their community in Pearland.

“We enjoy living in Pearland,” says Luís. “We love the community and look forward to serving the families here, our neighbors. From our family to yours, we're committed to delivering the highest quality kolaches, prepared fresh on-site daily. Our mission is to bring joy to our guests’ mornings with top-notch food, unbeatable service and a smile.”

The Space

The Pearland Kolache Shoppe’s new buildout is reminiscent of the bright, inviting design of the Heights location, complete with warm wood accents, white subway tile and bold blue-and-white patterned motifs. The Reys also commissioned local artist Whitney Hayden to paint a charming, pear-shaped mural indoors.

The Goods

As is the case at existing Kolache Shoppe locations, the cornerstone of the Pearland bakery remains the original, decades-old recipe for their enriched yeast dough. Fluffy and lightly sweet, the Czech-inspired, Texas-influenced pastry dough is the perfect foil to the Shoppe’s two dozen signature sweet, savory and breakfast-style fillings, as well as monthly specials, all of which will be available on the Pearland menu. September specials include chorizo, egg and cheese on the savory side, and raspberry and cream as the sweet special. Both will be available all month, Friday through Sunday.

Dedicated patrons to area farmers markets, the Hineses are committed to sourcing as many ingredients as possible from local purveyors, including through collaborations for their seasonal specials. The Reys will follow suit, making small ingredient swaps here and there, including sourcing legendary smoked brisket from Killen’s Barbecue by two-time James Beard Award semifinalist Ronnie Killen. They’ve partnered with Pearland Coffee Roasters to offer freshly brewed drip coffee. Other Kolache Shoppe vendor partners include Prasek’s Family Smokehouse, Kiolbassa Smoked Meats, Just Pure Flavors, Frenchy’s and La Boucherie.

“We genuinely look forward to connecting with our friends and customers face-to-face,” says Cecilia. “We are humbled and grateful to have such an incredible community to support us.”
