Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Receives Donation from HomeVestors of America

April 01, 2024 // Franchising.com // WILLIAMSBURG - Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg was presented with a check for $20,000 from HomeVestors of America®, Inc. after a local franchisee and U.S. Army veteran, Daniel Nice, was honored for making over “The Ugliest House Of The Year®”. Nice’s makeover of a charming 1890s farmhouse in Williamsburg won the title for the 17th edition of the national contest that highlights the most dramatic “befores” and “afters” from among the houses purchased and then renovated by the company’s independently owned and operated franchises nationwide.

The Ugliest House Of The Year was originally built in 1890 as the homestead for a 70-acre farm. Over time, the outside became so overgrown that it was hardly visible from the road. Inside, it was cluttered with debris and there were gaping holes in the floors. Neighbors would stop by during the renovations to tell Nice how the house had been known as the “haunted house” and that they never thought it would be restored. One neighbor was happy their dog would finally stop uncontrollably barking at the house given all the critters that lived around it.

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg was formed in 1985 and has built and renovated houses in its local community. The organization relies on outside donors like HomeVestors to fund its efforts, and believes that homeownership provides families with the strength, stability, and independence they need to live a better life.
