Pizza Inn Takes Home a Golden OBIE Award for Bambi and Friends Campaign
May 08, 2024 // Franchising.com // DALLAS - Three cheers for Pizza Inn as the marketing team and Pizza Inn’s partners at BooneOakley took home a Gold OBIE Award at the 82nd annual awards ceremony for their updated take on a popular Disney character.
Pizza Inn decided to bring back one of America’s cutest and most beloved woodland friends: Bambi. This portrayal wasn’t part of a big-budget sequel; instead, it was a new limited-time offer -The Bambi and Friends Pizza. Made with venison, wild boar and elk - a true meat lover’s dream come true.
To spread the word about this limited-time pizza, Pizza Inn put up a double billboard teasing Bambi’s return. Underneath, several hunting decoys gathered around the board with tags promoting the pizza - just in case any passerby or local hunter wanted to steal them. The boards were strategically placed in markets across North Carolina and Arkansas.
“It’s all about getting noticed, talked about and shared,” said Claire Oakley, Director of Client Services for BooneOakley. “The execution of this idea did all three.”
In the end, Pizza Inn’s audience loved the idea and The Bambi and Friends Pizza sold out in less than two weeks, making it one of the brand’s most successful limited-time offerings.
“Being in the running for such an important award against big players like Netflix and Disney was a dream,” said Pizza Inn CEO Brandon Solano. “I am proud to have the support of such talented people on our team to ideate in fun and exciting ways.”
