Healthcare Professional Brings SYNERGY Homecare to Highlands County
January 09, 2025 // Franchising.com // Tempe, Ariz. – SYNERGY® HomeCare has announced its newest franchise located in south-central Florida, SYNERGY HomeCare of Highlands County.
The company is owned and operated by Felicia Coke, who worked as a physical therapist for 16 years and a geriatric care manager for five years, before finally deciding to open her own business where she could put her caregiving skills to use for the benefit of her hometown Lake Placid.
Headquartered at 2035 US Hwy 27 North in Sebring, the company assists the communities of Highlands County, including Avon Park, Lake Placid and Sebring with a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.
In Coke’s 20-plus years in homecare-adjacent roles, she regularly noticed the growing need for these services, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic reports wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
Most of Coke’s professional career has been on the skilled side of homecare, where she provided valuable hands-on physical therapy, while also meticulously coordinating care plans from a managerial position. Throughout her career, Coke notes that many of the clients she got to help were rehospitalized shortly after being discharged, due to a lack of proper care at home versus what they received in-facility. She decided to become the solution to this issue, instead of looking for change to come from elsewhere.
“If more people had someone at home to provide companionship, medication reminders, or lend some help with activities of daily living, we’d be able to dramatically reduce rehospitalizations,” said Coke. “Care does not end when a person gets sent home from the hospital – their needs persist. Owning a homecare company allows me to ensure that people continue receiving compassionate care once they return to the comfort of their homes.”
Many of the older residents in Highlands County are Coke’s former teachers, coaches, pastors and parents of friends and old classmates. To be able to provide care for those who played instrumental roles in her early life is not a responsibility that she takes lightly.
“I’m honored to serve this community – my community,” said Coke. “I believe in vibrating to highest level, offering everyone a chance to life a life full of play, fun, love and excitement. My goal is to fill homes with this love and joy and let people know that we don’t provide care because we need to, but instead, because we want to.”
Highlands County is home to a high population of older adults. Many members of the community need to rely on caregivers for additional assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing or using the toilet.
“Not every day is perfect, and many situations are far from ideal, but our job is to help others find joy in every day and live a life worth living at every stage of the aging process,” said Coke. “No job is too small, and we promise to do everything in our power to help our clients achieve exactly what they want to.”
