Minuteman Press Franchise Owner Garth Sanders Selected as Crew Chief for 2025 Little League Junior Softball World Series
March 31, 2025 // Franchising.com // WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Garth Sanders and his brother Craig Sanders are the owners of Minuteman Press in Woodland Hills, CA since November of 2011. In addition to running a successful business for nearly 14 years, Garth has realized another dream. Garth has been selected as a Crew Chief for the 2025 Little League Junior Softball World Series, which will take place in Kirkland, WA later this summer (July 27-August 2) and will be shown on various ESPN platforms.
Garth shares, “This is actually the second time I’ve been selected to umpire the Little League Softball World Series. In 2017, I umpired the Little League Division (10-12-year-olds) and this year, I will be working the Junior Division (13-14 year-olds). Since 2012, I have also worked 4 different Regional Tournaments in the various age groups. The winner of each regional tournament advances to play in the World Series for each division.”
On being selected as Crew Chief, Garth says, “I am honored to be named as one of three Crew Chiefs for this tournament. The Crew Chief is best explained by Stu Hartenstein, Director for Umpire Development for Little League Baseball/Softball: ‘Your appointment to Crew Chief is a tribute to not just your abilities on the field as an umpire but also that of your demonstrated character, leadership, and the values of community, fun, inclusion, integrity, and teamwork that are the cornerstones of our organization.”
Garth adds, “While it is amazing to be recognized as a Crew Chief, the real honor comes from being one of a select few to be chosen to work with very dedicated and talented volunteer umpires from all over the world.”
Minuteman Press Helps Garth Follow His Passion
Being a Minuteman Press franchise owner means that Garth has the flexibility to pursue his dream on the ball field. He says, “The amount of time and effort it takes to be able to umpire at the highest level that the Little League has to offer would be very difficult to attain if it weren’t for me being the owner of Minuteman Press in Woodland Hills. The flexibility I have not only as the owner, but with the help of my brother and the rest of the Woodland Hills staff, allows me to put all of my efforts into this passion of mine.”
There is also a little bit of crossover in terms of being a Crew Chief and owning a business. Garth elaborates, “What most people do not understand is that there are actually three teams involved in every baseball/softball game. The home team, the visitors, and the umpire team. It is this teamwork that I can equate to how we like to work in our Minuteman Press business. Reliance on the team is crucial. Without your teammates, being able to succeed becomes much more difficult if not impossible.”
Another skill that crosses over is being the person who has to make the tough calls. Whether it’s as a business owner or an umpire, Garth’s training has prepared him to stay cool under pressure. He says, “Little League’s rigorous selection process and extensive training have given me the tools to both physically and mentally perform to the best of my ability during these crucial times. I have never really thought of how it feels because the play develops on the field and my training takes over. I don’t think of it while the game is going on, but looking back at it, I can say it is very exciting to be a part of the action.”
Garth concludes, “The selection process in which the umpires are chosen for the Regional and World Series Tournament is a rigorous one. It is with great pride that the people who make these decisions see my ability as one worthy of selection.” Congratulations Garth!
