Opportunity Brewing for Multi-Unit Operators at Aroma Joe's

Many established franchise brands have little territory left for meaningful expansion. Experienced operators looking to grow or diversify their portfolios are being challenged with finding a brand with both category momentum and room to build.
That's especially true in coffee, where many established brands have already awarded their most desirable territories. Aroma Joe's believes it offers operators something increasingly difficult to find: the opportunity to help build a market, not simply squeeze into one.
The 26-year-old, founder-led brand has grown to 135 franchised locations and is expanding beyond its traditional New England footprint. Today, Aroma Joe's is developing markets in Pennsylvania, western Massachusetts, Florida, Vermont, and other East Coast states. The brand is looking for experienced operators to help lead its next phase of growth.
“We're seeking multi-unit operators with the capital and operational experience to build markets alongside us,” says Erica Tarnowski, Franchise Development Director. “Our goal is to partner with local operators who want to grow their portfolios while helping establish Aroma Joe's in new communities.”
Rather than encouraging new franchisees to open a single location, Aroma Joe's is prioritizing opportunities for qualified operators prepared to develop a market presence from the start. Franchisees entering new markets must commit to an area development agreement for a minimum of three shops, creating the density needed to build awareness faster, capture market share more effectively, and operate with greater efficiency.
That density can also create a marketing advantage. Introducing a new brand to a market requires a meaningful investment whether a franchisee opens one shop or several. With multiple locations, operators can spread those marketing dollars across a larger footprint, accelerate consumer familiarity, and give customers more opportunities to discover the brand.
“Brand awareness is built through recognition and repetition,” Tarnowski says. “The more customers see Aroma Joe’s, the more opportunities they have to stop in. Over time, those visits become familiar routines, building a loyal customer base and a stronger foundation for long-term success.”
Operational efficiency also improves as portfolios grow. One shop typically requires its own management structure, supported by the revenue generated from a single location. With two, three, or more shops within reasonable proximity, a franchisee can often share managers, labor, and other resources across locations, helping them scale without overhead rising at the same pace.
For experienced franchisees, those efficiencies can support a stronger platform for growth and create a clearer path to long-term return on investment.
The opportunity comes as the drive-thru coffee category continues to attract consumers looking for convenience, quality, and premium beverages. Aroma Joe's has differentiated itself by combining speed with human connection. Unlike many drive-thru concepts, every order is taken face-to-face, creating a more personal customer experience.
The brand’s menu gives franchisees multiple ways to drive traffic throughout the day. Along with handcrafted proprietary coffee blends and espresso beverages, Aroma Joe's offers its proprietary AJ's RUSHÒ energy drinks, breakfast sandwiches, donuts, pretzels, cinnamon rolls, and other grab-and-go options designed to meet customers across multiple dayparts.
The Scarborough, Maine-based Aroma Joe's is 100% franchised and continues to expand along the East Coast from Maine to Florida.
Experienced operators know prime development territories with a growing brand don’t stay available forever. Right now, Aroma Joe’s offers qualified franchisees the opportunity to scale intentionally within the coffee segment while building something meaningful in the communities they serve.
“We still have substantial room to grow in markets where experienced franchisees can build something significant and scalable,” she says. “That's an opportunity that's becoming harder to find.”
