PJ's Coffee Brews Up Grand New Look with Remodel

PJ’s Coffee’s new look is here to perk up growth. The New Orleans-based coffeehouse that hangs its hat on better beans, superior roasting techniques, and passion for coffee-making recently remodeled and re-opened its first two stores utilizing the brand’s fresh new look. The redo is getting a thumbs up from owners and customers alike.

There’s still plenty of the classic New Orleans style in the revamped shops but now also a brighter and more modern look designed to promote a warm, comfortable experience for all guests. Neutral color pallets make way for a traditional coffered ceiling over the service area, and a modern, exposed ceiling in the dining area.  A new lighting package makes use of several different fixture styles and seating now includes high top tables, barstools, banquets with community tables, tufted leather couches, plush chairs, and ottomans. Think coffee comfort.

Executives hope the updated look will encourage guests to spend more time enjoying their great-tasting coffee while elevating the overall experience. The move is also expected to promote consistency across the brand by allowing guests to feel at home no matter which PJ’s Coffee they choose to visit.

“The rebrand is vital towards our efforts of amplified growth and the new ubiquitous design will help fuel our domestic and international expansion,” says PJ’s Coffee Franchise Development Director, Ryan Stansbury. “We want to appeal to a broad demographic and offer everyone a comfortable place to relax, socialize, study or have a small business meeting while at PJ’s. The new design is aimed to create a superior ambiance to align with the superior products we offer guests.”

So far, same-store sales have jumped as much as 26 percent in the two New Orleans shops testing the new design. Moving forward, PJ’s more than 90 franchise locations, and all new stores, will feature this brighter, more modern look that invites customers to linger.

The New Orleans-based coffeehouse was founded in 1978 by Phyllis Jordan, a pioneer in the coffee industry. The brand believes that better beans, superior roasting techniques, and pure passion for the art of coffee-making are essential to coffee connoisseurs. PJ’s offers a wide variety of hot, iced, and frozen coffee beverages using only the top one percent of Arabica beans, as well as organic tea and fresh breakfast pastries.

“PJ’s Coffee is celebrating its 40th year as an established brand, so we wanted to update our look and give our guests an overall exceptional experience that is aligned with current consumer trends,” says Stansbury. “We believe that by creating a physical change, it will lead to a positive emotional change—not just with customers, but also with our franchisees, managers and baristas.”

PJ’s Coffee offers a number of options to franchisees. Interested franchisees can expect a total investment of between $178,900 - $373,000 for non-traditional franchise units, and $190,900 - $566,000 for traditional units. The operating model and menu is adaptable to any environment with different options including kiosks and free-standing locations with a drive-thru, ranging from a few hundred square feet up to 2,200 square feet. The brand offers franchisees a proven franchise structure with strategic corporate support.
