Mathnasium Ranked as Top New Franchise in the Educational Field

Entrepreneur Magazine recognizes Mathnasium as the #13 Top New Franchise for 2006 – the only Educational or Learning Center franchise to place in the top 20.

January 08, 2007 // Franchising.com // LOS ANGELES, CA - In its 2006 ranking of U.S. franchise businesses, Entrepreneur Magazine has ranked Mathnasium 13th in the category of Top New Franchises, the highest rank of any educational franchise. The Los Angeles based company, which was founded in 2002 and began franchise activities in 2003, was ranked #239 among all franchise companies in the 2006 Entrepreneur Magazine Franchise 500 rankings, up from #379 in 2005. Over the past three years, the company has grown to 110 franchise locations open nationwide, and more than 40 locations abroad.

The company was also ranked #150 in the America's Top Global Franchises category, its first year to be ranked in the Top Global category.

"We're thrilled with our franchisees' success to date, and we're looking forward to another growth year in 2007," said Mathnasium founder and president, Peter Markovitz. "We set out to provide parents everywhere a service they could trust to deliver high value and unparalleled results. We've been very fortunate to attract an extraordinary group of franchisees and instructors who are helping us to achieve that goal!"

An educational learning center and franchise industry pioneer, Markovitz founded Mathnasium in 2002 to address the acute need for high value / high quality supplemental math instruction that he felt himself, as a father of four. To launch the concept, he built an all-star team of education and business professionals that has taken the concept "from zero to 150 in three short years."

The primary driver of Mathnasium's instructional success, according to Larry Martinek, Mathnasium's Chief Instructional Officer and architect of the Mathnasium Method, is its unwavering focus on teaching children math in a way that makes sense to them. "That might seem logical… in fact it's the only way I know how to teach. But very few others do that." Martinek has been perfecting his instructional methods as a teacher and educational consultant for the past 34 years.

Franchisees, Center Directors and Instructors are provided comprehensive training in the Mathnasium Method, and access and instructions for its delivery to each child as a unique selection from more than 7,000 pages of worksheets, oral explanations, visual and tactile examples, and other instructional tools.

"Kids love the program," says Martinek. "And we love to teach them."

Growing fast across the United States, Europe, South America and Asia, Mathnasium is providing children the understanding and confidence they need to excel in school, and the critical thinking and problem solving skills they need to compete and succeed beyond school.

Mathnasium Learning Centers are available to members in their communities for drop-in math instruction and guided practice, in a friendly and encouraging environment.
