Jackson Hewitt(R) Highlights Occupation-Related Tax Savings for the Workforce of America

In Last Weeks Before Deadline, Company Celebrates America's Workers With Customized Tax Tips and Promotions for Several Occupations Deductions@Work(R) System Helps Taxpayers Identify Occupation-related Deductions

PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 1, 2008 // PRNewswire-FirstCall // -- According to the IRS, over 11 million* people filed tax returns in the final week before the 2007 deadline. To assist these consumers in getting started and to remind them of occupation-related benefits that may exist, national tax preparation company Jackson Hewitt Tax Service(R) is once again dedicating the final weeks of the season to the Workforce of America.

For the remaining days until the tax deadline of April 15, 2008, participating Jackson Hewitt locations around the country are showcasing the wide range of tax deductions that are connected to the kind of work that consumers do every day. From teachers to truck drivers, taxpayers in dozens of occupations have tax benefits available to them -- if they know where to look. To assist them, Jackson Hewitt tax preparers are celebrating workers in four fields -- education, food service, healthcare and construction and trade labor -- by offering specialized tax tips and a discount off of tax preparation services on select days dedicated to their respective industries.

"In the rush to meet with a tax preparer to have a return filed, many workers may be missing out on the deductions that can arise from the kind of job duties that they do every day," notes Michael Yerington, President and CEO, Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. "In today's economy, we know our customers are working hard to be mindful of their dollars, and we want to help them by identifying the full scope of deductions and credits that may exist to be claimed on a 2007 tax return."

Jackson Hewitt's Deductions@Work system allows its network of tax preparers to take a close look at some of the most common professions in the country and identify expenses where, if unreimbursed, can be deducted on a tax return. The company will focus on four popular professions in the coming days and will offer those who work in these fields a discount of $25 off of tax preparation services (at participating locations).

The schedule of occupations being celebrated are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 2 - Friday, April 4: Educators and Students, including teachers; school administrators; tutors; and other related jobs, as well as students.
  • Saturday, April 5 - Monday, April 7: Food & Beverage workers, including waiters/waitresses, bartenders, cooks, and other related jobs.
  • Tuesday, April 8 - Thursday, April 10: Construction workers and Laborers, including construction workers, mechanics, welders, truck / bus drivers and other related jobs.
  • Friday, April 11 - Monday, April 14: Healthcare workers, including nurses, doctors, hospital aides, pharmacists and other related jobs.

Company Offers Career and Money-Saving Tips To Help Customers Stretch Their Dollars

As an additional feature, Jackson Hewitt is helping filers navigate the economic landscape by providing user-friendly tools at participating offices around the country. To help the Workforce of America get a new job -- or enhance the job they have -- the company is making a Career Tips kit available, which covers key topics such as networking and switching career fields. Jackson Hewitt has also created "Jackson Hewitt's 50 Ways to Save", a handout identifying simple steps to save money and tax tips associated with them.

"While our main charge is to work around the clock to help customers file their returns and put them at ease, we also wanted to offer something extra this year," explains Yerington. "We hope the career and the money-saving tips will help all of our customers over the coming year."

Jackson Hewitt's extensive network of offices will offer extended hours and have additional preparers on staff in order to serve the Workforce of America in these final days leading up to the April 15 deadline.
