Fresh Coat Opens Painting Franchise in Washington State

Throughout their marriage Jon and Katie Cook discussed building a business together. With the launch of their Fresh Coat Painters franchise in Vancouver, Wash., the couple says they are eager to use all their respective talents to promote positive changes in their community and surrounding areas.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) May 15, 2011 - Jon and Katie Cook have launched the first Fresh Coat Painters franchise in Washington to serve residential and business clients in Vancouver and its surrounding Clark area communities.

Throughout their entire marriage, the couple had considered owning a business together, and when Jon was laid off once again in January of this year, they decided it was time to explore options. An ad in Costco Connection led them to Fresh Coat, Katie said, "and it just fit with our backgrounds, what we enjoy and what we're interested in doing."

Jon has spent his career in construction as an engineer, manager and estimator. Katie has a more artistic approach having worked in graphic design. When they first married, they bought an old house and renovated it, she said, and they enjoyed the entire process – especially seeing the changes just a bit of paint can bring.

"Fresh Coat is such an accurate name," she said. "A fresh coat of paint can make a really big difference."

Bernie Brozek, president of Fresh Coat Painters, said the couple's enthusiasm provides a solid foundation upon which to build their business.

"Their vision, determination and solid work ethic are traits similar to those shown by many of our owners," he said. "One of our primary goals is to complement those inherent abilities and offer the professional support of our marketing, training and resource materials to help them succeed."

Katie said that support was apparent from the start.

"Because neither of us had ever owned a business, we need that roadmap to follow," she said. "They really support you, and you don't have to figure it out on your own."

Jon said he "can't wait to get going in the morning" because the business allows him to use the full range of his abilities while providing a "positive" service to the community.

"Painting is a positive because it means something new, something fresh," he said. "It means people are investing in the future, sprucing up their space, building their community, just doing something positive."

Both he and Katie appreciated the company's commitment to client satisfaction and its business model reflecting that commitment.

"Our business model does set us apart from competitors," Brozek said. "Our owners manage the business while the client service managers and painters complete the projects. With that clear division, the client gets the best skills of each Fresh Coat representative. And, because we hire only employees, never subcontractors, the painters appreciate the stability of the work as well."

Jon said that the delineation helps to ensure clients see professionalism from the first phone call to the onsite accurate quote throughout the entire project and beyond. That means being organized, showing up on time, doing the job right, and "just being consistently good," he said.

"Ultimately, we want to be the region's favorite painter – to be known as the company that makes the entire process comfortable for the client," he said. To help franchisees give excellent service to clients, Fresh Coat offers several assistance programs, Brozek said, including a 24/7 call center, the Paint Now-Pay Later 12-month financing program, an Automatic Touch-Up program for business owners, and a unique fund-raising opportunity for nonprofits.

Those factors especially impressed Katie.

"We're so glad to have the 24/7 call center, so that we don't have to think about whether clients get the help they need when they need it," she said. "And the charity option was really important. We both like to help people, and we were impressed that someone at the corporate office thought of such a simple way to benefit the entire community. I had never heard of anything close to this being offered around here. A lot of the charities are doing magazine sales now, but how many magazines does one person need? Painting is something everybody needs."
