User-Friendly Technology Ensures Safety of Independent Seniors

Direct Link Introduces New Product Line to Maximize Seniors’ Independence and Longevity

December 22, 2011 // Franchising.com // CINCINNATI – As nearly 90 percent of 40 million senior citizens wish to remain independent in their home, Direct Link, a national provider of home healthcare technology and an affiliate of Home Helpers, one of the nation’s largest home care agencies, is excited to announce the expansion of its product lines designed to ensure the safety of seniors living at home.

To help cater to the growing concerns that families are facing in keeping their aging loved ones safe at home, Direct Link has recently introduced an updated line of personal emergency response systems, along with vital signs monitoring products. These new products, available through Direct Link and affiliated Home Helpers, are all designed to alleviate stress and worry for seniors and their families.

“As a company that interacts with senior citizens and their families on a daily basis, we understand the importance of providing an expansive line of home health care technology that offers families a broader continuum of care,” Emma Dickison, president of Direct Link and Home Helpers, said. “This new technology allows us to continue fulfilling our goal of improving the quality of life for seniors who want to stay independent and healthy in their homes for as long as possible.”

Direct Link’s new Personal Emergency Response Systems include:

  • Cellular Medical Alert System: This emergency response system gives seniors access to help with the push of a button. This system does not require a home phone and utilizes multiple cellular networks. The device has the ability to report if the pendant has been absent from the unit for an extended period of time and features a 250-foot button range.
  • Care Watch: This device uses cellular and GPS technology to locate the user during an emergency, allowing seniors to maintain their independence both inside and outside of the home. The Care Watch can also be used to speak directly with The Care Center to summon help if needed.
  • Direct Link Fall Sensor: This device is the smallest and most sensitive fall detector currently on the market. The device is worn as a pendent and will automatically dial the Central Monitoring station when a fall is detected. Seniors can also reach help at any time by pushing the button.

Because chronic conditions make up the largest portion of health costs in the United States, Direct Link also offers vital sign monitoring products, including a blood pressure cuff, weight scale, blood glucose monitor and pulse oximeter. According to U.S. Census Data, about 80 percent of seniors have at least one chronic health condition and 50 percent have at least two. Proactively monitoring these illnesses and conditions can lead to decreased complications and a reduction of unnecessary trips to the emergency room.

“As a leader in the medical alert systems industry, Direct Link will continue to innovate and advance in home care technologies that enable seniors to feel safer and live independently at home for longer than might otherwise be possible,” Dickison added.
