Goddard Schools and AdvancED® Partner on New Accreditation Standards for Early Childhood Education

Goddard Schools, a premier provider of early care and education in the United States, was selected to partner with AdvancED, the world’s largest accrediting and school improvement organization, to develop the new AdvancED Standards for Quality Early Learning Schools.

King of Prussia, PA (PRWEB) May 15, 2012 - Goddard Schools, a premier provider of early care and education in the United States, was selected to partner with AdvancED, the world’s largest accrediting and school improvement organization, to develop the new AdvancED Standards for Quality Early Learning Schools. The Standards are designed to specifically support early childhood education best practices and continuous improvement but also align with AdvancED’s overall accreditation process.

“It was an honor to work with Claudia Carter and the team of people from AdvancED on development of the new AdvancED Standards for Quality Early Learning Schools,” said Dzana Homan, Chief Operating Officer for Goddard Systems, Inc., the national franchisor of Goddard Schools. “Developed with more than a year of research and development, Goddard Schools are proud to have been a part of and contributed to the new Standards.”

The new Standards, which are the highest-level accreditation institutions can achieve within the early learning arena, highlight best practices for early childhood education of young children. They include:

  • Use of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Focus on learning, growth and development
  • Focus on cognitive, emotional, social, creative and physical growth and development
  • Relationships between young children, staff and parents
  • Preservation of the child’s dignity in care routines
  • Health and safety in facilities, space and activities
  • Respect for self and others

“The participation by the Goddard Schools in the development of the Early Learning Standards was important because of their recognized reputation within the early childhood education industry and large curriculum-based network of schools,” says Claudia Carter, Vice President for Accreditation for AdvancED. “We continue to focus on providing support and resources to help schools continuously improve, and these new Standards emphasize our commitment to early learning programs.”

The AdvancED Standards for Quality Early Learning Schools are research-based, comprehensive and describe conditions that are necessary for early learning schools to achieve organizational effectiveness and ensure young children learn and grow. They will challenge early learning schools to commit to the care and educational well-being of young children, reach higher, examine closer, and demonstrate the fidelity and integrity of best practices in early learning.

“At Goddard Systems, Inc., we recognize and understand the importance of adherence to early childhood accreditation standards,” said Joe Schumacher, CEO of Goddard Systems, Inc. “Our system looks forward to implementing AdvancED’s new Standards into Goddard Schools. “
The Standards will go into effect in the 2012-13 school year for all Goddard schools that wish to earn accreditation through the NCA CASI, NWAC, or SACS CASI accreditation divisions of AdvancED.

“With nearly 400 Goddard Schools in 35 states, Goddard leadership was able to provide strong feedback on how the standards would be received by a wide cross section of early childhood education facilities,” added Homan. “Overall, we are proud to have participated in the development of new Standards that will benefit Goddard schools as well as all early childhood schools. “
